15. The call

George took his phone out from his pocket and stared at the screen which showed "unknown number". He picked it up with hesitation. As soon as he heard the voice from the other end, he froze and beads of sweat appeared on his forehead. "How did you know my number?" he asked. The voice on the other side threatened him to bring back the documents he has. "Seems like you've a family now!huh? Are you going to bring back the thing I want or....."

"See... I don't know what you are talking about. I worked for you earlier only out of my desperate situation. As soon as I got married and started a family, I left everything for them. Yeah! I helped you with your illegal business but now I am leading a happy life. So please don't disturb me. I promise I won't be a problem for you. Don't call me again"George pleaded.

"What? Do you think I am going to leave you like that? I know you have all the records of what I did. I can't let this slide. I have been looking for you since you vanished suddenly. I sensed something fishy when you joined our team out of the blue. What were you planning against us?" the mafia boss asked in a firm voice.

"Please! You have misunderstood me. As I said earlier, I joined your team as I had financial problems. And I don't even know about your business. I joined your company as a friend of mine suggested it to me. I'd have never joined it if I knew that it involved smuggling and illegal business.....I agree! I helped you as I had no other choice but now I don't even want to think about it. So please..." As George was explaining, the boss shouted, "Just stop it George! I know you are hiding something. If you left the job for your family, how come all my important records vanished with you. Don't lie! Just bring my documents back or you'll face the consequences". The call got disconnected.

"Honey!" Jane called her husband as he was still thinking about the phone call. "Honey" she called again which made him respond this time. "Huh!?" he turned to look at her. "What happened? You look disturbed" she asked and he just replied "nothing babe" and hugged her. "You okay?" she released herself from the hug and looked into his eyes. He nodded his head and kissed her forehead. "Seems like we have to stay here longer", he said. "Why? Didn't you tell me that we have to return to Texas soon", Jane asked. "I did. But I have some pending works to do here", he said. "I'd so happy if we stayed longer. Okay! Come! Let's have dinner" she said and they walked inside.

After Jane slept, George came to the balcony in their room and looked at the sky. "It's the right time dad! It's time for my revenge. I'm not going to leave him" He looked at the pendrive he held in his hand
"I'm coming for you! I'll make you end up behind the bars" His eyes started welling up at the memory of his dad being humiliated and beaten up for not paying the loan back. His injured dad passed away leaving the young George alone who struggled a lot alone later. His anger and vengeance made him work under the boss to collect evidence to make him end up in prison. But his love for Jane brought everything to a halt. Now he didn't want to wait anymore. The voice of the boss played again and again in his mind. He was ready to risk everything for his revenge but he promised to protect his family at any cost. He walked back into the room, planted a kiss on his wife and baby's forehead, took his car key and drove to meet someone.
