22. Love and laughter

"Why is she sleeping too much?" Lexi's mom said. "What's the problem? Let her rest", said Tom. "You always support your daughter", Lexi's mom said and rolled her eyes. She then went upstairs to check on Lexi.

Lexi and Andrew were tired and were sleeping as they slept very late last night. The hot rays of the sun slowly made its way into the room and kissed Andrew's face who slowly opened his eyes. He was wondering where he was, completely forgetting that he stayed the night there. Soon he realized he was at Lexi's place and checked the time on the wall clock and it was already about to be noon. "Shoot!",he said. When he tried to wake up, he found Lexi hugging his hand and was asleep. He adored her beautiful sleepy face and tucked her hair behind her ears which made her wake up. She slowly opened her eyes to see Andrew lying beside her and said, "Good morning Andrew" and smiled at him. She too didn't realize that they were in her room.

"Lexi, Lexi", her mom said and opened the door to see Lexi and Andrew jump up from the bed. "Sorry!", she said and closed the door. Again she opened the door and crossed her arms and glared at them. Out of embarrassment, both of them didn't know what to do and smiled at her awkwardly. "Good morning Auntie", Andrew said awkwardly. Tom wondered what was taking his wife so long and walked upstairs to check. He too was shocked to see Andrew there. But he understood the assignment. "You guys woke up!", said Tom which made his wife look at him. "I'm the one who opened the door for him. He came at midnight", Tom said to ease the situation. He acted like he knew Andrew was there already. Andrew breathed a sigh of relief feeling grateful for Tom. He then apologized to his wife for forgetting to inform her. She then looked at Lexi and Andrew and said, "Go and refresh. Get ready and come down. Let's eat lunch together". Tom smiled and wrapped his arms around her shoulder and they left the room.

As soon as they left, both of them looked at each other and started laughing. "It was so awkward. Thanks to your dad. He saved us", said Andrew. Lexi nodded in agreement. "Your dad is so cool", he said emphasizing 'your dad'. Lexi looked at him and she didn't say anything but she didn't disagree though. He desperately wants Lexi to become closer to her dad. He promised himself that he will make it happen.

They had lunch together and it was time for Andrew to leave. He said bye and when he was about to leave he hugged Tom and whispered 'thanks' for what he did earlier. Then he shook hands with Lexi's mom and stopped near Lexi. When he extended his hand for a shake, Lexi opened her arms for a hug and vice versa. They both laughed and finally hugged each other. The hug was a bit longer which both of them didn't want to end but they had to.

"Sorry for separating you lovebirds. Maybe you can stay or take her home", her mom said. "No!no! It's okay auntie. See you then", said Andrew and left.

Days went slowly for both but it was just a week. But Andrew made sure to visit Lexi everyday. Their bond slowly grew with little laughs, cute fights and unexpected eye contacts. He even made sure to make Lexi spent time with Tom. He could see some improvement in dad-daughter relationship. Lexi was gradually getting closer to her step dad. These days were so special for her. It was all because of Andrew. He made her house a home again.

Finally the day arrived when Andrew brought his car to pick up Lexi. He was so excited to take her back home. Jane was also happy to have Lexi back. "It was so boring without you. Missed you so much", she said. "Missed you too", said Lexi. "Liar! I am sure that my brother didn't give time to think about me", she said and laughed which made Lexi blush. She then took Jane's baby and started playing with him. Andrew came and carried him. "You look adorable. I think you should become parents soon", Jane teased them. Both of them looked at each other and laughed.

Suddenly they had a knock on the door and a delivery boy was standing with a big envelope. It was for Andrew. He completely forgot about the papers he asked one of his family lawyers to get them ready. He chided himself for being so dumb and why he was so quick to get them all done. He didn't want Lexi to leave him and he won't let her do so. He hid the papers soon and rushed to the room. Lexi followed him and when he knew she was coming into the room, he threw the envelope in a nearby drawer and acted normal. Lexi didn't notice him and she went to unpack her bag.
