CHAPTER SIX. fear his name
woodsboro, september 26, 1996

A soft drizzle humidifies the warm September air as Officer Stewart parks his car on the street right in front the house. Olivia gets out first, and Ronnie follows, sliding his hands into his leather jacket's pockets. The policeman remains seated in the car; when Ronnie takes a glance over to him, he sees him opening a newspaper. The headline reads Gruesome Massacre: Two Teenagers Dead. Ronnie tastes bile in his mouth as Ollie turns the key, then pushes the door open.

There's a foreboding tension in the house; it's almost eerily quiet, and Ronnie senses there is something coming. Olivia throws the keys onto the side table, then looks over at Ronnie.

"I'm in my room," she says, and he nods in reply, then watches her go, then turns back to face the living room, and only now does he see his father sitting in the armchair facing him directly, eyebrows knitted. Ronnie's heart sinks to his knees; he must've done something wrong, but he can't recall for the life of him what it was.
