Slow and Steady✰✰✰
The crisp morning air greeted me as I stepped onto the football pitch, and the routine of training hugged me like an old friend. Dynamic warm-ups kicked off the session, my body responding to the drills.
As the session progressed, my focus sharpened. Precision passes flowed effortlessly, creating a symphony of teamwork with my fellow players.
Amidst the drills, laughter and banter surrounded us. I was loving it at Real Madrid, I couldn't ask for a better club and teammates.Post-training, I headed to the gym for a session focused on strength and conditioning. After the workout, a brief recovery routine followed. The sports therapy room became a sanctuary for my tired muscles, where the soothing hands of the physiotherapist worked their magic.
Later, a nutritious meal awaited me at the club's dining area. Balancing protein, carbs, and essential nutrients, it served as a crucial component of my daily routine to support optimal performance and recovery.
I was trying to focus on my agenda for the day but thoughts kept plaguing my mind about Avery's first day at work.
I wondered if it was going well, did she like it, were they making her feel welcomed, is she fitting in? I wanted to make it special for her, I contemplated various ideas. Initially considering a lunch outing, but I discovered she had plans with her new team as part of the onboarding process.
With lunch plans off the table, I brainstormed alternatives to make her day memorable. As the evening approached, I mulled over the perfect way to cap off her day, envisioning a pleasant surprise that would resonate with her. But at the same time, I wanted to do something that didn't seem like I was doing too much or coming off too strong.
Inspired by her mention of her love for flowers and the fact that she had never received them before I decided that may be the direction to take. In that moment, I knew I wanted to be the one to paint her world with the vibrant hues of blossoms and bring a smile to her lips. Her subtle desire for a bouquet, tucked away in the corners of her voice, sparked a wish I had to grant.
As I made my way to her apartment, I carefully held the bouquet, conscious of the impact this simple gesture could have on her first day. The note expressed my encouragement and admiration for her journey, acknowledging the significance of this fresh start in a new city. I would've sent them to her office but, I feel that would be for another time.
Arriving at her doorstep, I left the bouquet with a note, hoping it would serve as a pleasant surprise when she returned. I made my way home knowing it will be different for a few days to come. Jobe left this morning and I already missed him. Dad went with him so it's just Mom and I right now.
Returning home after training, I found my mom in the kitchen, the inviting scent of home-cooked meals filling the air.
"Hey, Mom," I greeted, offering a tired but genuine smile.
"Jude, love, how was training?" she inquired, setting down a pot in her hands.
"Intense, as usual. You know how it goes," I replied, feeling her unwavering support.
Concern crossed her face. "And how are you holding up? You're pushing yourself hard."
I chuckled, "Mom, it's what I love. Plus, I've got something special planned for someone today."
Her eyes lit up with curiosity. "Someone? Tell me more."
I shared the details of Avery's first day at work and my plan to surprise her with flowers. My mom smiled, proud of the thoughtful gesture.
"Jude, now I'm interested. Is this the same girl from Rashford's thing? Because I have never seen you this smitten ever" She said, and I felt like I knew the conversation we were about to have.
Sharing my thoughts with my mom, I confessed, "I just have a good feeling about her. I've never met anyone I've felt this drawn to right away. It's scary but I can't help it."
My mother offered thoughtful advice, saying, "Take your time to understand her. Don't rush into anything. Ensure she's a decent fit for you."
Reflecting on Jobe's feedback about our evening at Toby, she added with a laugh, "He told me about Toby's. He said she was really nice and pretty."
"He said that?" I replied in slight disbelief. Jobe wasn't one to give compliments easily.
"He did, and we know how he is, so that's a good sign," she reassured, a hint of amusement in her voice, highlighting the rarity of Jobe's approval.
"Jobe can be so harsh; I have no idea why he's like that," Mom commented.
Reflecting on a past experience, I shared, "I'll never forget the time I brought a girl home, and the whole evening I could see him trying to swallow his laughter. Only for him to ask me why one of her front tooth was in 3D." It was hard to unsee it after he pointed it out.
"I don't know what we're going to do about him," Mom sighed, holding the bridge of her nose.
"We're still going to his match this weekend, right?" I asked Mom.
"Yeah, check your email for the itinerary," she stated. I couldn't be any more proud of him, and whenever I can attend his match to support him, I try my best to be present. Jobe like myself was a football player. He was on the rise, making his name in the industry.
