The sky was colored with hues of orange and blue. Rae wakes up when the birds chirp near the window. Slowly she hears the cries of Seol echoing in the adjacent room along with Jungkook trying to shush her. He would sing, he would make faces, he would give her a gentle massage but nothing was working. He was just tired now.
The whole night passed by with her waking up every hour taking a few sips of milk and then sleeping again. Diaper changes were another matter. Sometimes she would just cry to be held. Sometimes she just wanted to play not knowing it was time meant for sleeping.
He couldn't shut his eyes for even a minute. Usually Iris would help him out in between the night but she had gone to her apartment to catch up with her chores and proper sleep after they insisted a lot. She had things to be sorted out at work too which she said she would explain and discuss later.
It was applaudable what she was doing for them. She was the only support Jungkook and Rae had. The others all dropped by but were busy with work and their own lives.
Jungkook refused from taking his mother's help. First she showed disappointment at the baby turning out to be a girl instead of a boy which Jungkook argued about with her a lot. And then after the news of the incident reached her instead of lending a helping hand to her now a single dad son, she said petty things about his daughter having bad blood in her and that no matter what he does, her origins will show themselves. Jungkook was enraged and disheartened listening to her speak about her granddaughter like that, he didn't say anything but told her to keep away from them if she thought like that.
He's gonna raise his girl the best he can and there's no stopping him.
Without any help, things proved to be impossible to manage for Jungkook. He made her first priority, kept himself second. No matter how hungry or sleepy he was he would always look after her first.
Rae walks into Jungkook's room and looks at him sitting on the edge of his bed with his crying baby in his arms while his eyes are barely open.
"How long has she been crying for?" She asks.
"I've lost track of time now. I've tried everything Rae. Diaper change, feeding, walking, talking, cuddling, layering up, layering down, massage, music. I don't know what's wrong anymore. Turns out its something I can't give her that she needs. She probably looks for her mum. Well... she'll probably get tired of crying soon and sleep."
"Kook... here give her to me" Rae asks for the first time on her own, asks to hold her. She had been distant for the past week but now she couldn't see the child crying incessantly like that when she surely needed something.
Jungkook looks at her confused.
"Come on I can hold her, I'm a grown up. I won't break her" she chuckles when he helps her to hold the baby. He keeps telling her to support her neck. Keeps watching her even though he trusts her. He's also worried about her arm hurting.
"Seol baby look it's me. It's your auntie Rae. You wanna go outside." She smiles at the baby and talks with her in a gentle tone that Jungkook's never really seen her use before, "You got dad so worried about you sweetie. You've got no idea how much your daddy loves you. He doesn't wants to leave you for even a minute." She takes her to the balcony and sits on the chair. She makes a shield to protect her from the sun with the shawl she covers herself with cause she can't wear a lot of clothing on her injured side.
Seol observes her face carefully. That's when she realises how she's falling in love in a different way like she has never felt before and might not feel again. The infant's innocent stare makes her heart warm up with so much love she didn't think she could ever feel.
