"Broken people never smile.
That's what I had told myself.
The day I'd found your diary
Written in blood, on your bookshelf.
I never asked if you're okay,
Just told myself it was a phase.
But while I had sat by idly,
You were losing hope for better days.
"Broken people never smile"
It's what I'd told you to your face.
The day you'd fell down crying,
On the floor of my old place.
I told you "don't be so dramatic"
"Your life is all the same as mine.
You cry to me tonight, but watch,
Tomorrow you'll be fine"
I never knew the battle-
No- the war, you faced alone.
You'd reached out for a lifeline,
But left grasping at a stone.
And today you'd left me shattered,
At the news that you had gone.
Abandoned me alone here,
Just like I had always done.
And the hardest part about it,
Was realising, all the while,
I'm broken, but when not alone,
I still have got to smile."
