ARREST ME, OFFICER KIM || CHAPTER 4
Weekend?? Gonna be the worst, I guess. It's Friday afternoon, Getting ready for the weekend trip felt like a crazy puzzle. Stuffing clothes, sunscreen, and my secret snack stash into my suitcase turned it into a messy jigsaw.
Trying to get ready for the trip was less like solving a puzzle and more like playing a wild game of "How Much Can Fit in a Suitcase?” Soyeon, the packing wizard, looked at my bulging bag and laughed.
"Are you packing for a whole year?" she joked, raising an eyebrow. "Just preparing for unexpected fashion emergencies," I grinned, wrestling with the suitcase zipper like it had a mind of its own.
Heading down to the living room, the Kim brothers entered the scene, one smiling, grinning like he had just won the lottery.
The other? Well, he had this serious face like someone had just told him the world's most confusing joke, standing with his signature blank face like someone had just slapped him twice.
Namjoon, radiating a calm and respectful demeanor, walked towards us with a warm smile. "Are you all set for the weekend?" he asked politely, his eyes filled with genuine anticipation.
Soyeon, still chuckling at the suitcase conundrum, managed an excited nod. Me? I gave a thumbs-up, hoping my suitcase wouldn't explode like a party popper during the trip.
Just as we were about to embark on this 'adventure,' my mother strolled into the room with a playful twinkle in her eye. "Enjoy your weekend getaway, and try not to cause too much trouble," she teased, clearly amused by the chaotic pre-trip scene.
"Trouble? Us? Never!" I replied with mock innocence, casting a glance at the overstuffed suitcase that screamed "fashion emergency.”
Loaded with bags and the anticipation of a weekend filled with who-knows-what, we squeezed into the car. Heading to the airport.
The journey to the airport was a rollercoaster of laughs as Namjoon enthusiastically shared his playlist, which ranged from soothing ballads to energetic K-pop hits. Soyeon happily sang along while I struggled to keep my suitcase from toppling over in the backseat.
As we got to the airport, Namjoon, always chill, took charge like the captain of a well-behaved ship. At the check-in counter, Namjoon, the planner, said, "You and Taehyung, seat buddies. Soyeon and I are sticking together.” I made a face like, "Oh no!" while Taehyung, staying cool as ever, kept his poker face.
As we settled into our seats on the plane, I found myself next to Taehyung, the Sultan of Stone Faces. Determined to break the ice, I hit him with my best jokes. "Why don't skeletons fight each other?” Silence.
Taehyung's expression remained unmoved. Undeterred, I decided to fill the void. "Because They don't have the guts!” I chuckled at my own joke, glancing at Taehyung for a reaction.
At this point, I mentally declared war on Taehyung's funny bone. "Okay, tough crowd. How about this? Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field!" Taehyung's response? A blink. Not even a blink and miss – just a single, deliberate blink.
Frustrated, I mentally vowed to get my revenge. "Fine, if you won't laugh, I'll just take a nap." So, I leaned back in my seat, closed my eyes, feigning a snore louder than a plane engine, and mentally waved goodbye to any chance of Taehyung cracking a smile.
After the plane landed in Jeju Island early in the morning around 2 AM, Namjoon, the one who planned everything, got us rooms in a nearby hotel.
Walking into the hotel lobby, all tired but excited, we went to the front desk. "We've got two rooms booked," Namjoon told the person at the desk, who greeted us with a morning smile.
