Chapter 17 - School Bug

( Flashback )

" Mom, seriously, I am fifteen and you still play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star anytime I ask you to play the piano, I'm not a baby," I said to my mom with a fake scowl on my face, there was no doubt I enjoyed whatever she played.

" My darling, are you saying I'm that bad?" She said putting her hand on her chest in a hurt gesture, we both knew that in my entire life, no one played the piano as well as my mom.

" Come on Mom, you know you're the best of the best," I said to her as I wrapped my hands around her neck.

" But seriously Mom, why do you like playing that poem so much?" I mumbled into her neck.

She separated from me as she took my face into her hands.." you want to know why I love the song so much?" She asked and I gave a nod to affirm her statement.

" Because you my dear are my little star, no matter where you go, you'll always shine, your presence my dear calls for attention. You know you used to enjoy this song so much when you were little, you couldn't go to sleep unless I sang you the poem. Now you act like a big girl."

" That's because I am."

" Well, is that so?" I could see the evil glint in her eyes before she attacked me with tickles…

" Hello? Earth to Katherine." I was snapped out of my thoughts by Katherine waving in front of me.

" Where did you travel to?" She asked as she searched my face, there was concern written all over her face…

" To anyone that would sound like you're playing a simple poem, but I felt the emotion in that tone, do you wanna talk about it?"

" No, I'm fine, but you can hug me." I didn't need to say it twice. She engulfed me in a hug, I just needed that, thinking of my mom always makes me weak.
I blew out a breath as I felt the tension leave my body.

" Come on enough with this pity party, let's play something fun." We spent the rest of the afternoon playing the piano, I mean with me playing the piano and Anna giving me a list of songs she wanted me to play and I couldn't deny that it was fun.

"So school officially starts tomorrow?" Anna asked me as I sorted out my closet to choose what I'd be wearing to school. Immediately after she finished her dinner she came straight to my room and hasn't left since then, not like I was complaining.

" I don't want to even think about it, I am a bundle of nerves right now, I just hope everything goes well on my first day." The first day, I used to remember when my mom and I used to talk about what the first day of my going to college would be like. I graduated high school quite early and was expected to go to college, but things didn't go as planned.

" Calm down Kat it would be fine… But right now I gotta go, so I could let you sleep. Get some rest, don't think about it too much." She said as she stood up from my bed.

" Bye darling, get some rest, I'll see you tomorrow."

As soon as Anna closed the door, the emotions I'd been holding in since afternoon came crashing down on me. I wasn't a baby, but I couldn't help but wish, having my mom drive me to my apartment, and tease me about the boys, it was wishful thinking. I quickly clean the traitorous tears, I have come so far, I know everything will be okay.

I woke up with excitement and fear at the same time. I didn't have any engagement in school until 10:00 am, there would be an orientation for all the freshers.

I had already made breakfast and all that was left was to clean the boss's room which wouldn't take time and my boss was going to work, so I had time.

" There's nothing you can do, I'll decide where I stay, this is my brother's house and I've made up my mind." I heard Anna's voice come from the sitting room. She sounded like she was arguing with her brother.

" I had the whole place cleaned and ready for you, why wouldn't you just stay there?"

" How many times do I need to remind you to leave me alone?" She said before I heard her footsteps leave the kitchen.

"Oh hey, Kat." She said as soon as she noticed me…

"my brother is just so annoying, like why wouldn't he let me stay here?"....

" Maybe he doesn't want you seeing all the things he does with his women," I muttered or at least I thought I did…

" Ew, who cares about what he does with his women."

"Oops, didn't mean to say that out loud."

" Well, you did. What time are you leaving for school?" She asked as she started walking up the stairs.

" Well as soon as I am done with my chores, it's orientation day, so not really much."

" Okay I'll drop you off, please don't say no, just call me when you are ready." She really didn't have to bother, her face told me she wasn't going to take no for an answer, I just had to accept.

" Okay, thanks."

" Sure thing babe." She said before running up the stairs.

" Well have a lovely orientation day," Anna said before driving off.

Students filled everywhere, and you could clearly see the excitement on everyone's faces. I just gave a polite smile to anyone who looked at me, I wasn't in the mood to mingle.

Everyone was ushered to a very big hall and we were waiting for whatever they had to say when four handsome guys came up on the stage and the girls were shouting like they had just seen their favorite celebrities. I couldn't help but roll my eyes if you see my boss.

I didn't just think about my boss. I really needed a taste of that man so I could get him out of my system, the faster the better.

I drew my attention back to the stage and was surprised to see green eyes staring at me, where did I know him from, and was he expecting me to fan over him?

I just ignored him instead I focused on what the other guys were saying. Something about how we're going to have a fun time in school aside from studying and all.

They were seniors.

After they left, a group of girls came up and this time it was the guy's turn to cheer. The orientation turned out fun. We were to have a freshers party on Friday night and I wouldn't miss it.

After the orientation, we were divided into groups as one of the seniors took us on a tour around the school.

We were in the library when I felt someone tap me, I turned and was greeted with those green eyes again.

" What do you want?" I muttered as I didn't want to cause a distraction.

"Seems you don't remember me."

" Gimme a reason why I should remember you?" I asked with sass.

" Because I'm handsome." He said with so much confidence. He was soon cut short of his flirting when someone called him…

" Eddy, come over here please." The lady that was giving us a tour in my group beckoned to him…

" Well see you around hottie." He winked before walking off. I just knew then and there that I'd found myself a school bug. And I'll be seeing him a lot, there was no escaping him.
