As I pondered reasons to live on,
A tapping arose at my chamber door.
A raven did enter, feathers still adorned,
To perch above as I slumped on the floor.
“Utter no sorrows,” croaked my feathered friend,
“The past may haunt but the future shall mend.”
For years I had lingered all alone,
My cheerless soul in darkness was penned.
But as the lamplight flickered bright,
Casting shadows that crept and spread,
The raven spoke truths in the dead of night—
“The ghosts, they linger but inside your head.”
“Nevermore shall darkness reign
If into the light you dare now wade.”
With those words, the gloom was pierced and strained,
As if night itself began to fade.
My mind thus freed from its plaguing ghosts,
Each phantom's grasp now severed and lost,
Forward I ventured from that moment on,
The raven's wisdom liberating life’s cost.
Nevermore shall I dwell on tribulations past,
Rather seek the bright lines of joy forecast—
All gentled by that midnight’s sweet surcease,
Bestowed by a fateful raven of midnight’s caste.
