I waited for a painful land, myself hitting hard against the floor. But the impact never came. What did was a soft barrier, which saved me from the fall.

Axel had quickly caught me in his arms, my body against his chest. I breathed heavily for a few moments, frightened with the fall, but regained my composure soon.

Moving myself away from Axel, I said, "Thank you."

Axel glared at me. "Who asked for you to come down here alone? You could've asked any of us, why risk it?"

"I-I dunno," I blushed in embarrassment. "Sorry."

He rolled his eyes. He caught my right arm and helped me down the stairs and to the kitchen where Selena and Liam were conversing with one another.

"Good morning Nico," Liam approached me and wrapped me in his arms as Axel left my arm. "How are you feeling?"

"Better," I smiled back.

"Want breakfast?" Selena asked. Before I could agree, she placed it on the table, making my stomach churn with the aroma of French toast. Immediately, I sat down at the chair and devoured the plate within moments of my start.

"I'll be back by the evening," Axel said from my back as he approached the front door, "have a meeting with the Silver Council."

Selena nodded as he exited the house. I heard the engine of the car turn on and soon, the sound of the car faded away.

"Silver Council?" I asked curiously.

Selena sat down on the chair opposite to mine. "Yup, you heard it right. It's a council of several prestigious vampires who have similar opinion as ours. Not to hunt down humans for feeding or delectation purposes."

Liam sat at another empty seat. "But how did this apocalypse begin?" he asked.

"It isn't clear," Selena shook her head, "for all we know is that some humans came to certain agreement with the non-living resulting into our awakening."

"But weren't you present in this world before?" I asked.

She nodded. "We were, but not as united as we are today. It's more like as if some humans for goodness knows what purpose united the vampires, werewolves, sirens and awakened the dead, and have allowed them to wreak havoc all over the world."

I gulped. How could any human want to do this? Especially to their own kind!

"So, where will we go now?" I questioned looking at Liam. It seemed the question had puzzled Liam as well. He began wondering for a solution while Selena perked in.

"You don't have to go anywhere!" she clapped her hands. "You guys can stay with us!"

I stared at Selena with unsurety. I agree that these vampires had been more than welcoming for us, but the thought of living with them hereon made me feel strange. How could humans and vampires live together?

"Just like humans and animals do," Selena replied to my thoughts.

My mouth hung open. "H-how?"

She grinned. "It's a weird ability. Vampires can read the minds of humans or any other living species, or feel their emotions. But that doesn't necessarily mean we can read your thoughts accurately."

I creased my brows. "I-I don't understand."

She nodded and began to explain. "Look, just like the psychology of each one of us is different and unique, similarly the abilities of the vampires differ from one another. As I said, we can understand and feel the thoughts and emotions of humans, but we can only understand them, not read them."

"So does that mean you can understand all of our thoughts?" Liam asked.

Selena shook her head. "No. Only those which are being thought with considerable intensity. Vague emotions and thoughts cannot be understood by us. But clear ones and those which are being deeply assessed are well felt by us."

I nodded understanding the theory to an extent. Although it did not make much sense to me, but her explanation was worth considering.

We chatted on for sometime after which I went back to the room, guided by Liam for taking some much needed rest. The rest of the day passed by with the snap of my fingers as I either slept or read certain books to pass my time.

It was almost seven and Axel was yet to return. I had started to worry for him, even though Selena was unconcerned as she kept saying that his meetings do take time. Yet I couldn't help but worry since he had been out for the entire day and had not yet returned.

Needing some fresh air and walk, I decided to leave the house and take a walk in the forest. Of course I would not wander away too far, considering the dangers involved.

As I walked over the crunching grass and frequently breaking twigs, I couldn't help but recollect the horrific nightmare I saw at the night of my accident. I hoped that none of which I saw was going to be true, since the very scene of it would jerk the soul out of me.

Suddenly, I heard a rustle nearby. Quickly turning to my right, I glanced around, trying to figure out what must have caused it. Was it my imagination? Probably.

Not giving it any more thought, I kept walking, breathing in the fresh and aromatic air. However, my intuition made my moment worse. I could not help but feel the presence of something else, something I could not comprehend. And although I did not feel the dread of something inauspicious, which meant it was not something which would harm me, yet I had to be cautious.

Going by my intuition, I decided to head back to the house. It was probably the safest place for me.

Turning back, I began making my way towards the house. Yes, I could see it a distance away. In a few minutes time i would be back inside without any fear. Afterall, Liam and Selana would more than be ready to protect me.

My trail of thoughts came to an abrupt pause when a figure passed in front of me. It was quick and all I saw was a large shadow, enough to cause me to panick.

But I was glued to my spot, unable to move. Fear had ceased all my movements and neither did I have the strength to look around for the suspect. It was as if I was waiting for the inevitable.

And then, it appeared.

Right in front of me, a large werewolf, probably seven feet tall stood with calculating eyes. I was trembling head to toe, unsure of what to do. I was ready for the worst, imagining myself being ripped into shreds but this creature.

But none of that occured. Instead, the werewolf began transforming into something identical, something humanly. In no time, it had formed into a dashing young guy, whose height was little more than mine.

His looks screamed mischief and canniness, as he looked down at me with a pronounced smirk. His milky nude body glowed in the moonlight, while his tonned biceps and abs made him appear more dominating. He looked at me curiously while I trailed my eyes all over his naked self, unable to comprehend what I was staring at.

Slowly, he raised his right arm and caught my face by my jawline, holding it softly yet firmly. He tilted my face to the left and then to the right as if he was inspecting me and then let go of it. My heart all the while, was hammering in my chest, ready to burst out.

"You are mine," he grinned widely, his green eyes glowing with anticipation. Without warning, he pulled me by my shoulder and tilted my head to the side. Slowly, he brought his face closer to my neck.

I was ready for my incoming death. It was over, my life was gone. But before the werewolf transformed human could do anything to my sweet neck, a voice rang through the silence.

"HE IS MINE!"
