36) the Dread of Youth

A/N: BTW, I am combining Connor and Kon-El since they are the same person, just one is the more modern variation. In case you have only seen YJ's Connor, Kon-El is the pic above

Bruce had explained how the Zeta portal things worked to Nico, but he still did not like the idea of it. He tried to convince the man that he should just shadow travel to Dick, but Bruce had shut him down saying that the others at the cave probably wouldn't appreciate that.

Once Nico had gotten into his costume, he begrudgingly followed Tim, Dick, and Bruce into the machine. It was terrible. Nico felt like he was being turned into to wind again and he absolutely hated it. When he felt whole again, he looked around to see the infamous yj base that Bruce made him study the entire morning. He saw a group of teens waiting for them and the dread of youth filled him again.

"Welcome Batman," a dark skinned man said with a small nod. The Atlantean was at the gala, so he was pretty sure his name was Kaldur'ahm, but the others there were mostly unknown. The leader turned to look at Nico, also giving him a nod as he said, "Ghost King."

Nico was glad that his face was mostly covered cause he knew he would have looked very confused at the strangely formal greeting, but he still nodded back as if it was normal.

"Red Wing, why don't you give him a tour while I discuss with the team," Batman said gruffly.

Tim nodded and began walking off, Nico following close behind. As soon as they were out of sight they veered from the hallway and walked into a room. Tim began pulling up the live security feed while he said, "this is my room, for when I stay the night some times."

Nico was about to respond when the feed came up and Batman's voice filled the speakers.

"Ghost King will be here everyday this week and possibly in emergencies in the future. He is a contractor for myself and the other bats, meaning that he is temporarily one of us. You will allow him the same privacy you do Nightwing and Red Robin." Batman took a second to pointedly look at a kid in a red and pale yellow suit before continuing. "He is a powered individual; what these powers are, and their origin, are classified. You will only find out if he has to use them, and you better hope he does not have to. Try to avoid physical touch. Do not crowd him. Nightwing and Red Robin have worked with him before so if something happens, get them first. Any questions?"

Half of the hands immediately went up but Batman just turned and walked towards the zeta tube. "Nightwing will answer them."

Once Batman was gone Dick let out a sigh, running his hand through his hair, while calling on people. "Whats your question Garf?"

"What happens if we accidentally touch him? Is he like radioactive or something?"

Tim and Nico snorted at the green kid's question as Dick tried to keep a straight face.

"No, he is not radioactive; he just doesn't like to be touched, so don't do anything without asking. I would tell you that nothing will happen if you touch him, but I can't guarantee that. He really hates it." Nightwing sighed again before calling on Bart.

"Why do the bats need a consultant? Aren't you supposed to be all I work alone." Bart said with a bad impression on Batman, also making the two boys laugh.

"He was on our radar as a powered person in Gotham and he ended up saving my life while I was on a mission. After that we've used him for a few jobs."

Nico often forgot that his family was a big deal in the super hero world. His first impression of them was saving their asses, so even though he knew they were great, it didn't feel like they were always the most fear inducing. The fact that everyone in the room stared at Dick with wide eyes really surprised the newest family member. He immediately wondered what they would think if they knew he saved Robin's life too.
