The drive to the small town was longer than I would have expected. I've never had to drive myself for that long before, and the emotions swirling inside me throughout the whole ride didn't make it any better.

Regardless, I'm here now.

Just a few more turns before I pull up to the house where my life will change for a while. Whether it's a good change or not is up in the air, but I can't be anymore ready for it as I am right now.

One more turn and the house comes into view. It's a nice small family home, one car is in the driveway and there doesn't seem to be any light coming from the windows. It's only 4 pm, so it's not like anyone inside should be asleep yet.

I park my car at the curb next to the driveway and step out, getting myself ready for whatever I'm about to face.

Walking up to the front door, I take notice of the bushes in front of the house. They're a little overgrown and there's vines tangled all throughout them, like whoever lives here hasn't taken care of them in a while. The front lawn is also taller than considered 'normal'.

With a deep breath, I knock on the door and wait. It doesn't take long at all to hear footsteps from inside, followed by the door opening shortly after.

The door opens to an older looking woman in casual clothing. She looks up to me and lets a soft smile come to her face.

"Hello, how can I help you?"

"Good afternoon, ma'am. I'm here because I got this letter.... I'm not sure when it was delivered, but I wanted to know what it's about, if that's alright."

The lady smiles a little more and steps back. "Please come in, Christopher. We have a lot to talk about."

She knows my name? Usually, I would be skeptical of that, but in this situation, I don't care.

I follow her in and wait for her lead as she closes the door. She motions me to follow her through the hallway seemingly leading to a living room. Throughout the hallway though, there's platinum and gold records hanging on the walls.

While walking past I try to catch a glimpse of the plate on some of them. To my surprise, they're official, and awards from some of the most popular albums I've ever known.

Also on the walls are framed pictures of the same man standing with various artists I could only dream of meeting. What is all of this?

"Umm.. ma'am-" I start.

"Please sit down, Christopher. Would you like some tea, coffee, water?" She offers me.

I sit in the spot she assigned me while looking towards the hallway again. "Just a water, please ma'am. Thank you."

She pours me and herself a cup and sits down too, handing me my cup and taking a sip of hers before starts to speak again.

"So, I bet you have a lot of questions." She says with a knowing smile.

I let a smile build because she has no idea just how many questions I have in my head right now. "Yes, ma'am, I do but... I- I just don't know where to start."

She smiles again and puts her cup on the coffee table in front of us. "Well, let's start here: My name is Ruby, and I'm the one who sent you the letter."

My face falls. I'm both shocked and relieved to hear news about the letter, but this isn't what I was expecting.

"You.. you sent it?" Maybe I misheard?

She nods. "I did. Why do you look somewhat disappointed, dear?"

Realizing what expression I have on, I fix myself and try to brush away the worry. "No reason, ma'am. It's just.. I had thought someone ... else had sent it."

She looks down and nods in understanding. "I know who you were expecting. But I'm afraid it had to be me instead."

Now I'm even more confused.

Wait, the name Ruby sounds familiar though. It's someone I've never met, but was told about...

Ruby... that's the name of... oh.

"Ms. Ruby,... you don't happen to know a y/n, do you?" I ask. It's a long shot but I thought I remembered y/n telling me about their parents, and that their mother's name was-

She smiles and sits back in her seat. "Yes, I know them. I'm their mother."
