I'm not sure when, but at some point I fell asleep against the door. I only meant to close my eyes for a second, but I ended up sleeping for who knows how long.

Any other day, I would've been freaking out out of fear of being late for work, but I coudln't bother with that because of the crushing weight I still felt, never mind that I had the weekend off.

The urge to stay on the floor was strong, but I knew I should get up and at least move to my bed, so that's what I did. The pillows and plush comforter was welcoming, but it wasn't the same as every other time I let myself indulge in sweet sleep. That time, it felt more empty that it had before. There was always something missing, but now, it's like the whole other half of the bed didn't exist.

I'm not sure how long I was laying and staring at different parts of the room before I fell asleep.

It was pitch black for a while, then before I knew what happened, I was outside. I looked around at the new place, seeing only fields of grass and some wild flowers scattered around. Just like in other dreams, I was passive and comfortable in this new setting, even though I've never been somewhere like this before.

Ahead and behind me was a dirt road that seemed to go on forever. When I looked behind me, the path leading up to where I stood had footsteps imprinted in it. The steps followed me and when they reached closer, there was a patch of dirt that looked more distressed, like someone fell while walking. I know it wasn't me because I had just popped up there.

Seeing no other way to go, I stepped forwards and continued the walk down the path.

The walk was peaceful, and the sky was clear with a few stray clouds littered here and there. As I kept walking, trees and bushes started showing up on the grass, giving a little more life to the land.

I don't know how long I was walking for when I saw the road ahead split into two. The fork came closer to me as if trying to speed up my arrival, and before I knew it, I was standing in the middle of the split.

Both sides were clear and seemed to look the exact same besides the organic growth of nature. I guess it's just a 50/50 chance what I get out of walking down one, so I'll just pick one and move on.

Before going to the one on the right, I looked to the left one more time and see a figure started to take form. They looked so far away, but just as I seemed to walk fast up to the split, they came forward just as quickly.

When I was able to make out who they were, everything stopped.

Earlier in the day, I felt as if my heart had stopped when I heard the news. But now, I know it truly did once I saw the face I've been dying to see for the past 4 years.

Y/N stood in the middle of the left path, looking clean and healthy, and most of all, at peace. They just looked at me, and after a second, a smile started forming on their lips.

I didn't know what to do. Do I run up to them? Should I be calm? Did they want me to go up to them? The situation was so fragile and valuable, I didn't want to do anything wrong to mess it up.

Before I could decide what to do, y/n lightly chuckled and put out their arms to me. "Hi, Chris."

I didn't need another second to figure out what to do as I run up to them, immediately closing them into a tight hug. Tears started to fill my eyes again, this couldn't be real, there's no way.

My brain told me it was only a dream, this wasn't real, but then why did I feel y/n's form in between my arms like they were really there?

Just as I had formed tears, y/n also started to let a few tears loose too. Noticing that, I separated us enough to look at their face and hold them in my hands wiping the tears with my thumbs.
