Just The Two Of Us (Xiao x M!Reader)

I woke up from a nice nap in a warm blanket, I felt safe cuddled into the soft bed and tried to slowly get up. 

What I didn't expect was to wake up in the arms of Xiao.

It was like Xiao's hand was tapped to me, not letting go no matter how hard I pulled away.

"I- Uhm... Xiao? Are you awake-" Xiao's eyes suddenly flickered open and he let go of me immediately. 

"...Okay I guess- Do you wanna come on another trip with me? I gotta go to Chenyu Vale." I got ready in the bathroom and almost bumped into Xiao while walking out.

"...I will only go with you to protect you. Then I will leave" Xiao was as cold as ever but I could tell he didn't truly want to only stay to protect me.

Then again, after my last incident adventuring, it's for the best he protects me.

"Are you ready to go?" I got my bag and flung it over my shoulder while Xiao looked at me and nodded.

I used my own little Traveler Waypoint and brought Xiao with me as we walked towards Chenyu Vale.

I unlocked a statue and offered any Geoculi I had to Morax's staue. 

Xiao bowed his head to the statue as well and continued with our little adventure. 

Xiao was always at least 9 feet ahead to kill any monsters in our path before I even got a chance to look at them but it was sweet of him to protect me.

He made sure I was safe until we got to the village, he told me to call out for him if I need anything before slightly turning away and teleporting.

I was used to this by now and continued exploring only for waypoints for the time-being and sitting down at a small table.

I got food, tried some tea, and even met someone named Gaming (GaMing for the peeps that somehow dont know). 

We talked for a bit and I learnt some Wushou Dancing before saying goodbye and leaving the village.

I called out for Xiao and he appeared behind me, he didn't say anything and just followed me as we continued adventuring the newer part of Liyue I just discovered.

I found another statue and got some blessings before getting more chests, waypoints, and other loot laying around.

Xiao made quick work of the enemies while I collected flowers, stones, and loot in the background.

At this point, Xiao saying "USELESS" and "LAMENT" while fighting was so normal I couldn't help but feel bad. I knew he used his mask lots during this trip so we went to the statue for blessings.

I also tried my best to cleanse some of his Karma (even though I didn't know if it worked or not).

Despite my protests, he still walked ahead and killed everything in sight.

Xiao and I were in a cave when suddenly...

I tripped and fell off a steep part and dropped into the freezing water below, surrounded by enemies.

I told Xiao to stay where he was and I got out of the water with barely any stamina and tried to kill all the enemies. 

There were Mitachurls, Samachurls, Whopperflowers, and even Abyss mages. A Dendro Vision wasn't exactly in my favor but I used the elements of the Whopperflowers and Abyss mages to make elemental reactions.

After about one minute, all of the enemies were gone. I climbed back to the top where Xiao was, and we continued our journey. 

And of course not only did the cold water only slow me down, I started sneezing, coughing, and my nose was already stuffy.

Xiao brought me to a nearby campfire and even found an old blanket for me to use, I wrapped it around myself and sat near the fire.

Xiao also used his own body to warm me. My face was flushed against his chest and I heard his quick heartbeat.

He held me for a bit longer before I pulled away, despite my still stuffy nose and my throat hurting, I told him I felt better.

We got up and kept moving through the cave, Xiao held my hand and guided my through the darkness.

He suddenly stopped and made me bump into him, he covered my mouth and covered me.

My face was once again red and against his chest. 

"Stay here. Don't move." He whispered close to my ear, making me shiver from his warm breath.

I nodded as he let go of my waist, he ran ahead and it sounded like he was fighting something.

I knew I had to follow his orders, but I was also strong and could fight just fine....

I got jump scared when suddenly, a Cicin mage and Mirror Maiden teleported right in front of me and electrocuted me.

Because of the Mirror Maiden trapping me in one of those Hydro Crystal cages, I continued getting electrocuted while trying to escape.

I yelled for Xiao but he likely couldn't hear me because of my hurt throat and getting shocked.

I slowly fell unconscious and started crying from the immense pain. 

Just as I was getting sleepy, I heard the sound of yelling and was suddenly not getting shocked anymore.

I felt somebody lift my body as I tried to stay awake, I noticed it was Xiao trying to shake me to keep me from falling unconscious in the cave.

He teleported us multiple times until we were back at what looked like the Inn.

He placed me on a bed with a warm, wet towel on my forehead before I felt Xiao lay in the bed next to me to keep me safe.

Just as I fell asleep, I felt Xiao kiss my neck softly and say "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you earlier. I don't know why I have such an urge to keep you safe, but... I will do my best to make sure you're never hurt again."
