The lady lying on the bed eyed Sahar with a scrutinizing gaze. She knew the moment the girl walked in the room that something was wrong about her. Something different in her demeanour. The girl before her moved to clean the dusty side table which consisted of her medicines and some digest novels the lady liked to read. The lady sighed again as the young girl moved almost robotically. Like she practiced all of it before coming here. Done with the awkward silence, the lady finally spoke up

"How are you?"

Sahar's eyes snapped to the old lady. She was literally startled at the sudden interruption. She was so lost in her own chain of thoughts that she almost for a moment forgot her surroundings. She looked into the awaiting eyes of the lady and muttered

"I'm fine, Bilqees Aunty."

Sahar replied and resumed running her dust cloth over the wooden table. Bilqees sighed again. The girl was so stubborn. She perched up a little on bed, the movements causing a hiss to flow out of her lips. Sahar's head snapped at her painful hiss and in a minute she was right by her side.

"Don't move on your own. You'll hurt yourself." Sahar chastised. Putting the pillow behind her back, Sahar sat down while holding her frail hand.

"You look so...lost. What happened, child?" Bilqees' soft voice reached her ears causing her to stiffen. She thought she was being careful. Mustering a fake smile on her face , she told her a lie.

"I'm fine. It's just work stress." Bilqees frowned yet again. A defeated sigh escaped her lips at the stubbornness of the girl. Clutching her hand, she said in a gentle voice

"It's not work. I can see it. Something else is eating you."

The way those words fell off Bilqees mouth caused Sahar's stance to melt. She was torn between opening up to her or just make up another lie. After some troubled moment of contemplation, she finally chose a safer way out

"Well, there's some family issue. I'm just stressed about that." She hoped the kind lady will be convinced. It's not entirely a lie. She just didn't elaborate on it.

"It's okay. I hope whatever the issue is, it'll resolve soon." Bilqees assured the girl while squeezing her hand. A rueful expression crossed Sahar's eyes and she pulled her hand away. Standing up, she faced the window and a slow whisper released from her mouth

"I don't think so." A confused frown marred Bilqees' face. Shrugging, she said

"I know you're not telling me the entire story, but have faith in Allah. He has planned the best for you."

In so long, a genuine smile crossed Sahar's face. She faced the woman whose eyes brightened at her smile. She walked to her and helped her lie back down. Adjusting her pillows, she quietly left the room after giving the lady her medicine. She sighed as she reached the small veranda of the old age home. It was quiet there. It was a rare happening. Usually, the place was filled with ladies chatters as they enjoyed cups of teas or little snacks. But, Sahar was happy to have found the place deserted. She needed some lone time. Putting her hands on the railing, she heaved a deep breath.
