Marinette dialed Adrien's number, feeling a bit nervous as she waited for him to pick up the phone.

"Hello?" Adrien answered, his voice warm and friendly.

"Hi, Adrien, it's Marinette. I was just thinking about our consistent story for why we're 'dating'. Do you think we should say we were set up by mutual friends, or do you have another idea?" Marinette asked, trying to sound casual.

Adrien paused for a moment before replying, "I think the mutual friends story works well. It's a believable reason and it doesn't require too many details. Let's stick with that one."

Marinette nodded, feeling relieved. "You're right. It's simple and doesn't raise too many questions. Thanks, Adrien. See you at the event tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow, Marinette," Adrien replied before they said their goodbyes and hung up.

Marinette and Adrien exchanged nervous glances as they found themselves under scrutiny from their friends Alya and Nino. They realized that their story about 'mutual friends' might not hold up for long.

Alya raised an eyebrow, "So, who are these mutual friends who set you two up? We've never heard of them."

Nino nodded in agreement, "Yeah, it's kind of strange that we don't know the people who supposedly brought you together."

Marinette and Adrien exchanged a quick, panicked look before Adrien spoke up, "Well, they are friends from out of town and they prefer to keep a low profile. They thought we would be perfect for each other and set us up on a blind date."

Marinette quickly added, "Yes, and they made us promise not to reveal their names to anyone. They're quite private people."

Alya and Nino seemed to buy the explanation, but they still looked a bit skeptical. "Alright, we won't pry. But you guys better make sure to introduce us to these mysterious matchmakers someday," Alya said with a knowing grin.

Marinette and Adrien nodded in agreement, relieved that their friends seemed to accept their explanation for now. As they left, they shared a look of relief, realizing that maintaining this fake relationship was going to be more challenging than they had anticipated.
