Key Six: Taking Opportunities
Beginning Quote: "...When the pony he comes riding by, you better set your sweet a** on it." ~ Zac Brown
Ever get that great offer? The one that seems too good to be true?
But it requires some altering of your current life style. A move. A school change. A separation. Dropping some activities.
Ever have a hard time deciding to take it or not?
It's an amazing deal, really. You can benefit in so many ways from accepting it. Only, there are also some things you'll have to give up. Your friends, your home, your hobbies, and sometimes even your family.
Think a little harder. This might be the one and only chance you'll get like this. The only time this will be available.

It was the beginning of summer workouts. Things were going great. I was still in the same group as all my friends.
"How was gym?" my mom asked me after gym, like she did every day.
"Good," I went through the routine.
"So, you got an offer today." she said casually.
"O-kay?" I didn't get it.
"They want you to move up to the elite group in gym."
Woah, woah, woah! Wait a minute. They want me to move up to the elite group. That's awesome. But, I would have to be homeschooled. No more friends at school. What should I do?
"That's great, Mom, but I would have to stop going to Star, wouldn't I?"
"Yes, you would have to be homeschooled."
Ugh! This stuff was so hard. I was never good at decisions.
I weighed the consequences. I had to think this out; this kind of offer only came once. If I moved up into the elite group I could get more hours in, get better coaching, have a higher chance of becoming a great gymnast, and advance levels faster, but I would have to leave Star Charter. On the other hand, if I stayed in my current group I would get to stay at Star, but I would get less hours in, have coaching issues a lot, probably not become very good, and stay the same level for two years in a row.
After a few days of thinking, I had come to a conclusion.
"Mom, I want to go into the elite group."
"Are you sure, honey? This is entirely your choice."
"I'm positive. I can be better if I move up."
"Okay, I'll tell them today."
~~~~~
I've been in the elite group for over six months. It has made me so much better. Although I still miss my old school, I don't regret my decision. It was the right thing to do. I am so glad I did what I did.
Have you learned the lesson? Have you found the sixth Key?
Wonderful! You are closer now to finding the door than you were before. Maybe you even found some of the other Keys you might've not collected earlier. Great job!
If you haven't found the Key, it's okay. You can still find it. Just take an opportunity, and see what happens. You never know what great things will happen when you just say yes to an offer.
