Simon's Point of View:

"You should inventory his watch and ring. They'll take it off of him the first chance they get." I advised Finley as Hockley and me both stood side by side, the pair of us being handcuffed prior to getting onto a prison bus to start off the investigation.

Finley nodded, letting Hockley remove his Rolex watch and gold wedding band before securing his wrist in the cuff before turning to face me. "Now you should take off your wedding ring, Mr. Riley."

"No. I'll have a chance in there, but he won't," I shook my head. "I'll have to be dead before this ring comes off."

"That's your call, then."

I watched as he put my phone, wallet, and keys in an inventory bag, the screensaver being Kiera and our children peering back at me after he had accidentally touched the screen while he put the phone in the bag. "Remember, Riley, for all they know, you're in for suspected murder. They will not know who you are, and it's best to keep it that way."

"Roger that."

"Dixon here will pick you up in the morning and bring you back here in the morning. Figured you wouldn't want to call your wife and have her pick you up in her condition."

"I wouldn't."

I hated how this woman was eyeing me up and down, acting like the information of me being married being no concern to her. She looked at me as if she was planning to try to seduce me, to be another mark on her board, but she was shit out of luck. Her manicured hands secured the cuffs around my wrists before she grasped my forearm to lead me towards the bus that would take us in to the prison complex. "I'm sure you're used to doing the opposite, Mr. Riley." She hummed at me.

"Yeah." I shrugged, oblivious to the meaning of her comment.

"Don't get yourself in trouble in there," She smirked. "Can't have anything happen to that handsome face of yours."

Did she really think she was going to succeed with this game she was playing?

I just stared at her blankly as if she was stupid, which it was foolish on her part to even say things like this to a married man, letting me know that she was indeed a homewrecker.

More of a slag, in my opinion.

The ride on the bus was another hour tacked on to the hour it already took to get to Finley's office from home, and I embraced the silence by looking out the window at the world passing by, the darkness taking over the interior of the bus and leaving only Hockley and I in each other's presence.

That was, until he broke that silence, "Thanks. For the watch thing."

"Shut up," I scoffed. "It wasn't a favor."

"O-Oh."

I shook my head to continue thinking about how I was going to get justice for Eva. Within another few minutes, the lights on the exterior of the prison caught my attention. Brakes hissed to a stop before the door opened, and the driver was quick to unlock the binding that secured our cuffs to the seat. "After you, big man." He retorted at me, and I was compliant by not bashing his head in for sneering at me.

Stepping off onto the concrete below me, the officer waiting for us looked at me as if I was the tallest man he had ever seen, which wasn't new to me as I wasn't a stranger to curious glances due to my build, so I didn't pay it any mind. "Jesus..." He sighed to himself. He was about Kiera's height, which I thought was funny considering he was a man who looked to be in his early sixties. "My name is Officer Jennings. Time to follow the Yellow Brick Road, inmates." He pointed, the bold yellow line leading towards the intake department of the prison waiting for us to follow.
