"This is everything that stayed." The crowman said, giving back in Porchay's shaking hands the crystal. The golden coloured crystal, everything that was left from his older brother. "We don't have any explanation. It has never happened before." He said, sitting back on his chair. "A phoenix from your family not able to come back to life from his ashes...a new mystery." He said without any regard for the man's pain in front of him. He realised his mistake when the boy in front of him kept his silence but his sobs weren't as well hidden as he would have wanted. "I will try my best..." He awkwardly added. "Nothing about the weapon?"
Porchay denied with his head. "P'Kinn...wasn't in the room either..."
"I see...it might be related. Whatever. I am going to keep you updated if I find something but don't have too much hope."
Porchay nodded and he was out of the Crow's establishment, out alone, a void filling his chest, the coldness of the weather freezing his body. He called for the authorities and he ran out of the house with them without thinking. He couldn't think, he couldn't put a meaning on what he came home from. Ashes. And in the middle of those ashes, the crystal protecting his brother's soul.
He just walked towards that house which didn't look like a home anymore but a cemetery, he didn't know if he would be able to live inside this huge old mansion. He had to put the ashes somewhere. He knew that it wasn't part of his Hia's anymore, it was more like dust, but he was all he had, all had had with this crystal. Porchay wondered if he could hear the world around him, feel that Porchay was holding him in the palm of his hand as if it was his own heart.
Porchay stared at the huge place with huge sculptures, with towers. It always had felt too much for only two phoenixes but they were the only survivors of their family. It always felt too big but it was warm, they loved each other, they were spreading more love for this big house to not be a heavy legacy but a comfortable environment.
Now it was crushing him.
The young phoenix walked slowly, sobbing more as he was getting closer to the doors, as he was opening them, as he went inside, meeting first in the entry of their family picture. They had two, one here and one in the living room. Both big, both capturing an expression, a moment, the intensity of happiness. They both faded away.
Porchay turned his head towards it, not feeling that nostalgic. It was him as a baby, sitting on his father, not knowing, not understanding, he might not even be aware that those people were his parents, sat on chairs, and that his brother, behind them, hugging his parents, letting his big smile highlight the middle of his mothers and parents' head, would be everything to him: parents, brother, bestfriend, protector, everything. It was writing silent words on their wall, the words from a time he had no memories about, a time where life had been softer, the time where his family didn't break under the pressure of those weapons.
They all knew, it was traditional to consider the Theerapanyakul's family line as the strongest ally. They naturally ended up alongside the Kittisawat, the most powerful creature and the most powerful weapons together to protect the harmony of their society. In between their family, there were some other legendary ones and then the common dynasty without any power. The role of the most ancient families was in the end to assure the protection of the vulnerable and to rule the world. They all had a mission in their own element, and they were under the power of the Dove, an eternal bird representing peace. It wasn't a real creature, more like a spirit of something unfailing in their universe, a little like Porsche's crystal now.
Squeezing it a small amount more, Porchay walked further in the house and in the huge living room, with a lot of shelves, books, statue and big windows, there was the second picture, Porsche and Porchay. They were the heirs of their family, the last ones to be alive for what everyone thought. Now, he felt alone because he might stay the only one. Porsche was hugging from behind, with a kind of familiarity which wasn't usual in the official picture, Porchay who was smiling as if his ray of sunshine could burn down the whole room. He was far from this at this moment.
