"I don't know how I'm going to sing in this," Safia muttered, eyeing her outfit skeptically. She had one hand on her back and the other on her stomach, pulling herself in."You look amazing," Homelander reassured her with a smile, watching her pick and fix herself in the mirror from his comfortable spot on the bed.
He had gotten home a couple hours after her in a questionably better mood than the one he had in the elevator earlier. Once more he had flipped the never ending emotional switch and reappeared as Jekyll instead of Hyde. The blonde supe returned as the ever loving, adoring, complimentary boyfriend.
Sorry... fiancee.
"Although I'm sure after you have the baby it won't take long for you to get back to this," he commented, analysing every curve of her figure.
"If I get pregnant," Safia replied, her tone filled with uncertainty.
"When," Homelander insisted firmly, standing up and wandering over, standing behind her and placing his hands on her stomach. "I'm willing to try everything to have this with you, aren't you the same?" he quizzed.
"Of course," Safia nodded, hiding the hint of anxiety and deception in her face. She continued, hiding herself with a compliment, "I'm so proud of you, you deserve tonight."
"Thank you, baby," he smiled, kissing her exposed shoulders. Homelander's gaze shifted to her neck, where the telltale marks of his aggression lingered beneath the surface. "You missed a bit," he pointed out casually, his tone chillingly indifferent almost annoyed she had been so careless.
If the world thought he'd done that to his new fiancee... How would that make him look? What would people think of him? America's hero couldn't be an abuser.
Safia's hand instinctively moved to cover the bruise, eyeing it in her reflection, a reflexive action she had done many times before.
"Got it," she replied, reaching for her colour corrector kit, dabbing a brush into the green and patting it into her neck. She covered the purple and red, covering it with concealer, foundation and powder right after.
"I have to have a talk tonight with Madelyn about what Vogelbaum told me, about how she lied to me," Homelander announced, abruptly changing the subject. His eyes analysing her every action, ensuring she covered the discolouration right the first time.
Safia's heart sank at the mention of Madelyn's name, mind immediately thinking of the worst. She had always been nervous around Madelyn and the impact she had on Homelander. With the tongue of a snake, the vice president managed to get whatever she wanted out of the supe and manipulate him.
At least Safia did it to survive.
"Oh," was all Safia could respond while nodding.
"She'll admit the truth because she cares... she does," Homelander reassured her, though his words offered little comfort and stressed her out a lot more. Thank God she could hide it well.
If he wanted to tell himself again and again how much Stilwell loved him then he could do it. Safia didn't have to be apart of it though.
Leaving the apartment, they'd arrived late to the event- or perfectly on time for Homelander to receive all the praise he possibly could..
Safia wore a vinyl red sleeveless dress that hugged her tightly, making her wiggle when she walked. Her brunette hair was tossed over one shoulder and that giant ring on her hand.
Her hand wrapped under his arm, stopping with him at the top of the stairs.
"There he is!"
"Our hero!"
