Dazai was holding a list that Yosano had given him. She had asked him to do some shopping for her, again, because she was too busy to. So obviously, being the good mentor he is, Dazai decided to drag Atsushi along with him.
It was just the basics, charts, bandages, gauze, etc. While skimming over the page, Dazai was hit with a wave of exhaustion. The fatigue gnawing at his mind elicited a soft yawn from him.
He hadn't been able to sleep for the past few days. His mind was always reeling like it was against him getting even a single wink of sleep. Dazai has always struggled with sleeping, but the issue seemed to increase tenfold after Chuuya passed.
It's been several months since that cold winter day, and yet Dazai seemed to be trapped there. Constantly replaying the last moments he had with Chuuya in his head, like you would after watching a scene you liked from a movie. Although, this was no pleasure in any way for him, just a constant torture his mind would put him through.
Dazai would never forget Chuuya's lifeless form- his hands were cold to the touch. He should've stayed awake, and spent those last few minutes with Chuuya so that he wasn't alone. But he wasn't. Chuuya had slipped away, alone, by himself all because Dazai couldn't keep his eyes open.
"Dazai-san! You forgot your coat!"
Atsushi's voice snapped Dazai out of his thoughts, he turned to look behind him and saw the white-haired boy running over. Atsushi stopped for a moment to catch his breath, holding his coat toward Dazai.
"Here-"
Dazai pushed his thoughts away and smiled, speaking in a cheery voice.
"Ne! Thanks Atsushi-kun!"

It was a beautiful, hot summer day when Atsushi noticed something was wrong with his mentor. The pair were currently walking back to the office after Yosano had sent them out to do some shopping for her.
