Mother's Day Without My Mother

You were one of the most caring mothers when you were alive,

But you lost a battle when you were only fifty-five

With your shimmering halo and your lilac wings,

You are safe up there as some of your fellow angels sing

Your brother-in-law's halo and wings are blue

And your recent tears must be that morning dew,

But I want you to be happy in the frosted white clouds

You may have lost a battle, but you should be proud

For being the best mother you can be for over twenty years

As I be the best I can be as I dry my own tears

Even though your defeat did you and Dad part,

You are still in your firstborn baby's heart

And in the hearts of your secondborn and the others'

And I once again turn to the untouched bed covers

I sense your love and care raining on me

As I step outside with my bag and turn the key

It is your motherly tone I miss the most

And I would not fret if I sensed you as a ghost

Because they miss you so much and so do I,

But have a Happy Mother's Day in the sky
