shinji got roughly a year before misato arrived at his doorstep her people all armed, shinji himself was meditating in his office, completely unarmed
"ma'am we've found the gladius unit, but not the sword" one of misato's soldiers said
"where is it shinji" she asked
"have you gone through my logs" i asked
"what of it" she asked
"if you want to understand my answer i need to know" i said
"yes we've been through logs, now where is it shinji" she demanded, this time he finally opened his eyes and looked directly into misato's eyes
"good luck getting past nirvash to get it" i said, her eyes widened and she cursed
"get it back" she ordered, he shook his head closed his eyes and resumed his meditation
"shinji you don't have a choice" she said
"you'll find that in this case alone, i do have a choice" i said
"i will kill you" she said, and then she heard his laugh
"you'll kill me regardless, katsuragi i am not stupid and have lived longer then you will ever realize" i said
"we could capture you and torture the information out of you" she said
"so you are willing to stupe to my father's level to get what you want, have you become like him katsuragi" i asked, those words stung her pride, she did not like being compared to gendo ikari, she was shocked at how shinji saw through everything she said
"just give us the damn sword shinji" she said sitting in a nearby chair and sighing

"why are you so willing to protect it" she asked
"because i am not as clueless as a i was, while i may dislike the new religion surrounding it, i am well aware that without the comfort blanket of it holding the nation together, the union would splinter and could very well end up at war with each other, azrael is a symbol, one that will not let you destroy, i may have ruined millions, but you would willingly ruin trillions at least with your foolhardiness" i said, she flinched
"it cannot be as bad as you say" ritsuko said
"how many high ranking officials from the union showed up at my fortress, took one look at you and promptly left" i asked, both of them had their eyes widen in shock
"i am well aware that my fortress was only neutral ground because i made it that way, so just put a bullet in my head and get it over with, but you will not get your hands on azrael" i said
"take him" misato said to her soldiers, with a tired sigh
what happened next no one saw coming, with lightning speed, shinji pulled out a bokken and began to knock all of her men unconscious, forcing misato to draw her sidearm
"kill me if you must, but you will not take me from my home katsuragi" i said
"we will get unit-01 weather you help us or not" ritsuko said
"no i don't think you will, you only have two pilots after all, and everyone in the galaxy knows what you will do should you get your hands on it, so you will have very few pilots take on the extraordinarily talented renton thurston, and the extremely powerful nirvash, and likely eureka in unit-01 itself, good luck with that" she said
"yui would let no one but you use it" ritsuko said calling him out on what she thought was an empty threat
"if yui ikari was a problem you'd be correct, let's just say she no longer has an influence on my evangelion any longer, and anyone that protects my interests, will be very capable of using it" i said, ritsuko and misato blanched
"how do you know they won't just give it to us" misato asked
"if in the extremely unlikely event that they do you can throw it in my face, but eureka thurston knows exactly what it's like to be used, so i quite doubt that fact, oh and you have to face a fleet led by a commodore just to get to renton and eureka, i need to have talho thank her husband for me" i said
"you have all the answers, you don't care about your own life, and have made sure your EVA is protected from us" ritsuko said
"correct" i said
"let's go, ritsuko" misato said
"misato" ritsuko asked
"if we kill him, they will kill us, and unit-01 will still be operational, shinji has beaten us here, we will collect that unit of his to be disassembled and be on our way" misato said, ritsuko didn't like it but she nodded her agreement
