The forbidden word

A saying that's all but sinful

A phrase that's taught but is never to be used

"No"

Because we're so used to hearing "yes"

We're so used to getting what we want

We're so used to being in charge

That when someone says "no"

It's a disappointment

But I shouldn't need some

Half-wit excuse to say no

I shouldn't need to justify

Not wanting to do something for you

Or with you

Not wanting to is enough

But then they won't take "no" for an answer

Not peacefully anyway

So now I'm "no fun"

I "never do anything right"

I'm just a "boring debbie downer"

So instead I make excuses

"I was going to eat instead"

"I'm busy helping someone right now"

"I'm with someone else already"

"I was going to take a nap"

But even those don't work all the time

Even with those, they persuade me into saying

"Yes"

Except, I didn't want to say yes

I didn't want to give that to you

I wanted to say "no"

But it doesn't matter what I want

As long as my answer is "no"

It's the wrong answer
