Chapter 24

MOTEL ROOM-DAY
[There is tv's loud noise. When Cora and Diego go in, there is no one. They get out on balcony. Cha-Cha and Hazel drive away and start shooting at them. Cora makes ice wall that protects them from bullets. Klaus comes out from behind wall.]
Klaus: That was close one.
Cora: (glares) We told you to leave.
"Klaus!" Groaned Cora.
"You would do same." Said Klaus.
"Yes, but you are drunk!" Said Cora.
"That's not drunk! I'm just little tipsy." Said Klaus.
"You are still under influence" Said Cora.
"So?" Said Klaus.
"How do you deal with him 24/7?" Asked Cora to Ben.
"I can't leave. What's your diffence?" Said Ben.
"I love this idiot. Unfortunelty." Said Cora. Klaus grinned at her.
"Aww. I love you, too." Said Klaus. Cora's lip twitxhes for smile.
Diego: They're getting away. [Diego, Klaus and Cora run to the car.]
Diego: shit. Get in the car. [Cha-Cha and Hazel are out os sight.]
Klaus: Oh... (Diego sighs) Was this all part of your master plan?
Diego: Shut up.
Cora: Not now!
Klaus: Hm?
AUDITION-DAY
Conductor: (sighs) What is your name again?
Vanya: (Softly) Vanya.
Conductor: Louder, please.
Vanya: Vanya Hargreeves.
Conductor: Right. Well? [Vanya starts playing "Gigue from Partita No. 2 in D minor" by JS Bach confidently.]
Vanya looks suprised by her own playing.
LEONARD'S HOUSE-DAY
[Allison sneaks into Leonard's house and searches it.]
"Allison!" Said Vanya.
"I'm trying to defend you." Said Allison.
"I can take care of myself!" Glared Vanya.
AUDITION-DAY
[Vanya is still playing.]
LEONARD'S HOUSE-DAY
[Leonard come backs in house, while Allison is still there. Allison manages to sneak out.]
AUDITION-DAY
[Vanya finishes the song.]
STREET-DAY
[Five and Luther are in car on some abandoned street.]
Five: (sighs) You know, I never enjoyed it.
Luther: What?
Five: The killing. I mean, I was... I was good at my work, and I... I took pride in it. But it never gave me pleasure...
Ben and Cora look down at their hands.
Five: I think it was all those years alone. Solitude can do funny things to the mind.
Luther: Yeah, well, you were gone for such a long time. I only spent four years on the moon, but that was more than enough. It's the being alone that breaks you.
Others look at them sadly and sympathetically.
Luther: You think they'll buy it?
Five: Well, what I do know is that they're desperate. It's like a cop losing his gun. If the Commission finds out, they'll be in deep shit. Oh, not to mention the fact that they'll be stuck here until they get it back.
Luther: Well, I should hold onto it.
Five: Hm?
Luther: In case they make a move on you.
Five: Okay, Luther, but be careful. I mean, I've... I've lived a long life, but... you're still a young man. You got your whole life ahead of you. Don't waste it.
Cora and Klaus laugh. Five gives them weird look.
"Sorry, sorry. It's just... it's so funny coming from someone who looks thirteen." Laughed Cora. Five rolls his eyes.
[Car approaches. Luther and Five get out of car.]
Five: Hmm... Here we go. If this all goes sideways, do me a favor and tell Delores I'm sorry. [Hazel, Cha-Cha and Five walk toward each other.]
Five: The masks really necessary? [Cha-Cha and Hazel take off the masks.]
Cha-Cha: So where is it, kid?
Five: Wow, that's how you're gonna start. You know, we can get right back in our car and call it a day.  [Cha-Cha points a gun to him.]
Cha-Cha: You won't even make it halfway there.
Five: Maybe. But as I'm sure you found out in your previous foray, my brother is not your average giant.
Hazel: He's right. You dropped a chandelier on him, got right back up. Five: By the time you took him out, he'd smash your precious briefcase to a pulp.
Hazel: Probably us too, right? So, how do we help each other?
Five: I need you to get in contact with your superior so I can have a chat with her. Face-to-face.
"Why?" Asked Allison.
"What are you planing?" Asked Cora curiously.
Cha-Cha: About what?
Five: Well, I don't believe that's any of your concern.
Cha-Cha: Just don't tell her about the briefcase.
Five: Fair enough. [Cha-Cha and Hazel go to call.]
Luther: What happens now?
Five: Now we wait. [Ice cream truck apporoaches.]
Luther: Is that her? [We see Klaus is driving the car.]
Five: What the hell is he doing here?
[Diego, Cora and Ben's ghost are with Klaus.]
Diego: Go faster!
Cora: (grinning) Crush them!
Ben: (girnining) Wee!
"Looks fun." Said Cora.
Cha-Cha: It's a setup! [Cha-Cha and Hazel open fire. Klaus hits Cha-Cha and Hazel with car. Suddenly, time is stopped. Only Five is the unfrozen one. He gets out and looks around.]
Everyone looks weirded out and scared excelt Five.
Handler: Neat trick, isn't it? Hello, Five. You look good, all things considered.
Five: It's good to see you again.
"She is the boss?" Asked Vanya. Five nodded.
Handler: Feels like we met just yesterday. Course, you were a little bit older then. Congratulations on the age regression, by the way. Very clever. Threw us all off the scent.
Five: Ah, well, I wish I could take credit. I just miscalculated the time dilation projections, and... Well, you know. Here I am.
Handler: You realize your efforts are futile. So why don't you tell me what you really want?
Five: I want you to put a stop to it.
Handler: You realize what you're asking for is next to impossible, even for me. What's meant to be is meant to be. That's our raison d'être.
Five: Yeah? Well how about survival as a raison?  [Five points gun at Handler.]
Handler: I'll just be replaced. I'm but a... small cog in a machine. This fantasy you've been nurturing about summoning up your family to stop the apocalypse... is just that. A fantasy. I must say, though, we're all quite impressed with your initiative, your... stick-to-itiveness, really quite... quite something. Which is why we want to offer you a new position back at the Commission, in management.
Five: (chuckles) Sorry, what's that now?
Handler: Come back to work for us again. You know it's where you belong.
Five: Well, it didn't work out too well the last time.
Handler: But you wouldn't be in the correction division any longer. I'm talking about... the home office. You'd have the best health and pension, and an end to this ceaseless travel. You're a distinguished professional in... schoolboy shorts. We have the technology to reverse the process. I mean, you... you can't be happy like this.
"She annoys me." Said Cora.
Five: I'm not looking for happy.
Handler: We're all looking for happy. We can make that happen. We can make you... yourself again.
Five: (sighs) And what about my family? What about them? I want them to survive.
"Aww. I knew you loved us." Said Cora and Klaus. Five rolled his eyes at them and looked away. People look amused by Five.
Handler: (sighs) All of them?
Five: Yes, all of them.
Handler: Well... I'll see what I can do. Do we have a deal? [Handler reaches out her hand.]
Five: One thing. [Five walks away, takes gun from ground and throws away it and its bullets, then changes bullet's dirrection from Luther. And finally, walks back to Handler and they disappear together. Time comes back. Hazel and Cha-Cha are thrown away. Ice cream truck hits their car, too.]
Klaus: Good God!
Luther: Five?
Klaus: Oh! Ow! [Klaus, Cora and Diego are hurt by car accident.]
Luther: Five! Come get it! [Luther throws the briefcase away. Cha-Cha chases it. Klaus and Cora help Diego get out of car. Cora herself is also limping a little.]
Klaus: Come on. Come on.
Diego: Wait. My shoes hurt.
Klaus: (to Luther) What the hell are you guys doing here? [Hazel runs to his gun and shoots, but bullets aren't there.]
Hazel: No! shit! [Luther helps Klaus, Cora and Diego in car.]
Klaus: Luther, go! Go! Let's go! [Luther starts the car.]
Klaus: Woo! [They leave. We see Ben's ghost is sitting in passenger sit, grinning.]
Ben: Woo-hoo! [Klaus and Cora show Hazel and Cha-Cha middle fingers from car's back window.]
"Idiots." Said Diego fondly.
Hazel: Damn it! [Cha-Cha opens brifcase and turns it out. There is only junk, it isn't time-traveling brifcase.]
Cha-Cha: (screaming) Shit!
People take pleasure into theses two's suffering.
LEONARD'S HOUSE-NIGHT
[Someone is knocking on door. Leonard opens it and sees Vanya.]
Leonard: Hey. How'd it go?
Vanya: Honestly?
Leonard: Yeah.
Vanya: It was amazing! [Vanya gets into house.]
Vanya: You know, I've never played without my medication before, so I was so nervous. But I don't know, it was like... I was carried along by, um... like, an invisible force.
"Weird, but cool." Said Cora.
Leonard: Like an out-of-body experience.
Vanya: Yeah, sort of. It's just like I... I felt everything more fully, more deeply. And I got it.
Leonard: What?
Vanya: I got first chair!
Leonard: You did? Oh, my God, congratulations! [Leonard hugs Vanya.]
Leonard: Oh, I'm so happy for you. After everything you've been through. You deserve this.
Vanya: No one's ever believed in me like this.
"That's why you trust Leonard. He was the only one who showed you kindness." Said Allison sadly. Vanya didn'tsrespond.
[Leonard touches Vanya's face.]
Leonard: Vanya. Vanya. This is your time. [Vanya and Leonard kiss. They start undressing.]
"Ew." Said Diego.
"I really don't want to see it." Said Cora.
"Can we go skip it?" Asked Luther.
[There is some kind of power vibe coming out and traveling through house.]
"What's that?" Asked Five. Cora shrugged.
[We see Leonard's attic, where is Helen's corpse.]
Vanya looks shocked and horrified.
"He... he..." stuttered Vanya.
"I'm sorry, Vanya." Said Allison.
"Stop it! Shouldn't you be happy? You were right." Said Vanya.
"I wish i wasn't. You deserve better, Vanya. I know it. Don't lose hope." Said Allison.
[Power vibe os so strong it makes windows crack and trees shake. Power reaches umbrella academy, too.]
THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY-NIGHT
Pogo: How are you feeling? [Grace mover her fingers.]
"Mom." Whispered teary Diego.
Grace: Fine.
Pogo: Do you remember what happened?
Grace: I do.
Pogo: And do you understand that the children can never know?
"What is he talking about?" Asked Luther.
Grace: I understand.
Pogo: Good.
