The day it all changed

The day started like any other an average house in an average landscape with the average family of four
Getting ready for the day, aces reading his book at the dinner table, Liena making breakfast and trying not to burn the bacon and their two sons at each other's throats for the toothpaste and hair brush

Zaxen: give it here!!!

Xander:no!! back off i had it first!!!

Aces:fight over it, you lose it now sit down

Both boys sit down, ready for breakfast but Xander had to get the last word in and stuck his tongue out at Zaxen, who just rolled his eyes

Aces: enough xan, now are you boys ready for school?

Zaxen:you know it dad first day of twelfth grade and i'm gonna nail it!!!

Aces: atta boy! That's the spirt! Now what about you Xander, are you all ready for your first day of eighth grade?

Xander: i guess so dad right now i just wanna eat breakfast can we do that

Aces:sure kiddo

And just like that both boys walk out the door and go their separate ways to their new schools leaving both parents to their selfs at home
while Zaxen was walking though he noticed that his usual route was blocked due to recent storm damage over the summer break and decided to take a different path he wasn't gonna be absent on the first day of all days
Through this different path in the forest he goes through briefly to get to school usually its a quick in and out situation but as stated before because of the storm damage he had to go deeper into the woods, and while going deeper through the woods he found an old bridge over a river assuming this is the only way to school he stepped onto the bridge hearing it creak with his weight assuming he could make it across if he was fast enough he decided to run across and then...

Back at the residence both parents were attending to their usual daily routine,
which consisted mostly of tending to the house and work,
sometimes they'd remember the life they left behind, it isn't bad,at least not usually,
It was mostly when their children asked to meet their grandparents or questions about what life was like as a kid for them,
they always got passed thinking about it though just a bit of time is needed,
usually they trick themselves into thinking about it like when their children get bullied at school they know that Zaxen and Xander are perfectly capable of punching those brats into the next state but their physiology never awoken so they never brought it up and they never told them the truth the past stays buried
until one moment something felt off for Liena it was brief and she didn't mind it until the phone rang

Liena:hello relinquo residence how can i help you?

School:hi yes this is the high school administrator

Liena: oh is something wrong? Did my child forget something? Is he sick? Do i need to pick him up?

Strange on the first day? But not too out of the ordinary

School:no we're calling to inform you that your child Zaxen relinquo has not arrived to school today
