Review: This book has fantastically creative premise; a boy that can talk to his shadow. It does a fantastic job of weaving in a number of mysteries very early on; what happened to his father, uncle and grandfather; is Randy a reliable narrator or does he have a mental health issue? The character is well developed, clearly anti-social and suspicious of others. The sense of alienation he feels as a teen is very relatable. This book does a great job of setting up a fast-paced paranormal mystery. There are some language issues that are relatively minor, but mostly center on using words and phrases that aren't quite right in the context. However, it's easy to read past this. The chapters are short, so this is a very fast read. The writer is highly creative and has wonderful moments where their developing voice comes through. Overall, a great read.
2nd(its a tie b/w two):
*Cataracts of Delusion by new_erasktaylor
Book Title 4 /5 marks: Very strong title as cataracts imply blurry or impaired vision and this works well with the idea of delusion
Book cover 4/5 marks Cover image is beautiful but the title fonts don't quite work with the rest of the cover
Book description 3/5 marks I like the opening hook, interesting question. The blurb does not give too much away and creates immediate suspense
Plot 8 /10 marks
