"Hyung, what is a 'mate'?" Seokmin asked me with an innocent curiosity.
"Why do you ask?" I asked back looking at him with an eyebrow raised.
"Everyone at school is talking about it, I'm curious!" His eyes sparkled with stars and yet again I couldn't say no to him.
"I'm not sure because they say it's an 'adult' thing, but I guess a 'mate' is the adult's way to call their forever friend or something...?" I scratched my head looking away from Seokmin who was four years younger than me and way more clueless about this cruelly beautiful world back then.
"Like someone you'd wish to grow old with? Like Mom and Dad?" His mouth turned into a circle as his cheeks lifted.
"I think so...?" I had a nervous feeling about what he would say.
"Then it's decided!" Seokmin ginned running in front of me as he held out his hand. "When we grow up, Jisoo Hyung will be my mate!"
Ba-Dum. My heart skipped a beat. "...Eh? O-Okay..."
As I stared at his smiling face, I made a promise.
I'd grow up to be a man worthy of being his mate.
