Nivea's POV:

It had been two weeks since the incident with my supposed mother.

Two weeks.

Yet I curl into a ball and sulk every day after work.

I rolled unto my back to ease the cramp on my left leg.

"Sis! Mi a leave now!" Zari yelled from somewhere in the house.

I didn't answer.

Nuh feel like it.

Seeing my mother had triggered me in some way. It reminded me of the peak of my depression in highschool when I felt that I was undeserving of my mother's love.

All the tears and cries.
Hating myself because she left

All of it came back.

Snap out of it.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

Pass dah stage deh long time. Mi cyah guh back deh suh.

I gave myself a pep talk then slowly drifted into the land of dreams.

A few hours later my eyes shot open.

Why?

I have no idea.

I rubbed my eyes and stared around my dark room.

There was nothing that could have woken me up.

I closed my eyes with the intention to return to sleep when a soft knock sounded at the front door.

My eyes shot back open.

Who dat?

Dat me wah know.

I felt around the bed for my phone then remembered I had left it in my handbag that was now carelessly laid on the floor.

After straining my eyes to search for my phone in the darkened room, I finally found it.

231 missed calls.

Mi will call dem back another time.

I looked at the time displayed on the screen and realized it was now 2:00 am.

The knock sounded at the door again and this time my heart fell to my stomach.

What if a somebody come fi kill we?

I slowly rose from my bed and made my way to my room door.

The knock came again but this time with more force.

I slowly opened my door then tiptoed to the kitchen for one of the knives.

If a kill dem come fi kill mi, dem try know mi nah guh dung without a fight.

I held the knife firmly in my hand and slowly made my way towards to door.

"A who dat!?" I yelled, trying to keep my voice firm.

"Nivea?" The voice said.

Dem all know we.

"Mi seh a who dat!?" I yelled again.

"A Azriel." The voice said.

I froze in my tracks.

Azriel?

I turned on the living room light and the outside light then looked through the window that gave the full view of the veranda.

There I saw Azriel standing a little away from the door and the grill was pulled.
