Continuation of episode 7x01
Liam let out a few dissatisfied gurgles before Carina placed her hand on his tummy to calm him.
She whispered softly, her voice trembling with emotion, "I know. I know. I know." She sighed, the weight of losing his birth mom still weighing heavy on her shoulders.
Maya approached quietly, sensing Carina's distress. "Hey," she said gently.
Carina continued to watch Liam, her voice strained. "He has no idea his mom didn't make it."
"You did the best that you could," Maya reassured her, her voice filled with understanding.
"It feels so random," Carina murmured, her gaze distant. "The floor just gave way beneath us, and now... some of us are gone, but some of us are still here, it just doesn't feel fair... But this has cleared up some things."
"About?" Maya asked, a little scared.
"Us," Carina sighed.
"You weren't clear about us before?" Maya questioned, a hint of confusion in her voice.
"Okay, so I know I said I could, and I thought I could, but I can't live in your apartment anymore," Carina confessed, her voice thick with emotion. "There are too many painful memories there."
"Okay," Maya replied, still confused.
"I thought... why don't we start fresh? In a house," Carina suggested, her voice hopeful. "I'll be starting IVF soon, and I want a place where we can build a life for us and our new family. And a garden where I can plant oregano and basilico and rosmarino."
"And a backyard with space to work out," Maya added, a small smile tugging at her lips.
"And a table outside to have friends over when it's nice," Carina continued, her eyes bright with anticipation.
"Our house... Our. House..." Maya whispered, the realization sinking in.
"Yeah. Our home," Carina confirmed, her voice still fragile but filled with happiness
"I'm in," Maya whispered back, her heart fluttering with excitement.
"Oh, my God. Okay," Carina exclaimed, her voice filled with joy as she pulled Maya into a small kiss. Reluctant to continue publicly in the NICU, Carina took her hand and led her swiftly to her office, and in an instant, Maya was back at Carina's lips. Unable to contain her overwhelming need for her wife any longer, Maya's actions became more urgent, her hands roaming eagerly under Carina's scrubs, seeking out the warmth of her skin.
Carina had already undone Maya's shirt, frustrated as always when discovering her t-shirt underneath. Determination flared within her, and she was about to tear the shirt off completely when Maya's touch stopped her in her tracks.
Maya's hand, warm and insistent, cupped Carina's center through her panties, sending shivers down her spine. A soft moan escaped Carina's lips as Maya's fingers traced the delicate curve of her slit, igniting a fire within her. "Yes," she breathed, her voice barely a whisper, as she felt the touch intensify, slipping inside the fabric of her panties.
But just as Carina surrendered to the growing heat between them, the jarring sound of Maya's phone shattered the moment, pulling them back to reality. They both knew the significance of that sound—Maya was being called back to work.
"Noo," Carina lamented, the disappointment evident in her voice.
Maya took a deep breath, torn between her desire to stay and the responsibility of her job. She almost contemplated ignoring the call. Reluctantly, she withdrew her fingers from Carina, licking off the wetness they had already elicited despite not fully exploring her yet.
