Slater

Removing the headphones from his ears, Slater cleaned and dismantled his rifle, enjoying the solitude until he realized how strange it was.

Where's the rest of my team?

Swiveling his head, Slater looked for the rest of Delta team as he made his way into the armory then down the long hallway toward the offices.

After passing several empty offices, Slater saw Gunner leaning against the doorframe of a conference room talking to Nate.

"Where's Logan and Kincaid?" Slater asked Gunner.

"Gym. Emma's here. Ice and Gray are giving her some self defense training. Kincaid asked Logan if he'd give some pointers to Emma's colleague."

"Olivia?" Slater asked with a little more volume than intended.

"I think that's her name. Yeah."

Kincaid didn't ask me to assist with Olivia's training. Why wouldn't he want a team leader training her? I'm more qualified than Logan.

Feeling his blood start to boil for reasons he didn't quite understand, Slater adjusted his posture by rolling his shoulders to release some tension.

"Why Logan?" He asked with his brows dropped.

Gunner shrugged his shoulders.

"I think he knows a little sign language." Nate chimed in.

Slater nodded with his brows still dropped into a hard line.

Makes sense I guess.

"You think they need some help?" Slater asked, trying to sound as casual as possible.

"Couldn't hurt." Nate said with a knowing grin.

"I mean Logan's specialty is explosives and mine is hand-to-hand. I bet Kincaid would rather a more experienced trainer."

"Totally." Gunner gave an over exaggerated nod that Slater could tell was sarcastic, but he didn't care.

Giving Gunner a playful shove as he passed, Slater brushed past his teammate and headed toward the gym with an eagerness to see Olivia that was slightly concerning.

He decided it was more concern for her safety than his interest in her. After all he'd only met her once and it was a complete train wreck. Maybe it was redemption he was seeking.

The ring was occupied by Grayson, Kincaid, and Emma, but he saw Logan and Olivia standing on the mats a few feet away.

"You just gonna stare at her or are you gonna go talk to her?" Pierce snickered as he wiped his face with a towel.

"I just came to help train her." Slater grumbled, unamused by Pierce whom he normally found hilarious.

"You aren't gonna yell at her again are you?" Caleb asked, wincing slightly.

Taking his hand down his face, Slater pushed out a hard breath.

"No." He muttered in a low serious tone.

"I overheard Logan asking her to take out her hearing aids so they didn't get damaged." Declan chimed in.

"Probably a good idea." Slater agreed feeling suddenly confused that Olivia was in the gym unable to hear anything around her.
