"we ready?" ava asked the other two when they were backstage at the talent show

"i think so" jonathan replied doing finger exercises to loose the pent up tension

"yeah" darcy smiled playing with the sicks

"okay, let's do this" ava chewed on her gum when she pulled the guitar strap over her shoulder

"i can't wait for you guys to attain the loser tage after your performance" gretchen said trying to impress regina

"atleast it won't feel repetitive" ava said without ever looking at the group as principal duvall introduced them on the stage

"next up we have, jonathan, darcy and ava"

the three got up on stage as darcy set up her drums and jonathan sat by the keys while ava held the mic stand

"before starting" ava began "this is important. i hope you know this is about you" she signalled jonathan and darcy to begin with the background vocals

More than just a dream
More than just a dream

the three started with their instruments hitting the notes as ava leaned forward into the mic

40 days and 40 nights
I waited for a girl like you to come and save my life
All the days I waited for you
You know the ones who said I'd never find someone like you

she watched the crowd enjoy along as she tapped her leg to the beat

'Cause you were out of my league
All the things I believed
You were just the right kind
Yeah, you were more than just a dream
You were out of my league
Got my heartbeat racing
If I die, don't wake me
'Cause you are more than just a dream

she smiled into the mic which was clearly heard as she sang, making a certain blonde backstage blush

From time to time I pinch myself
Because I think my girl mistakes me for somebody else
And every time she takes my hand
All the wonders that remain
Become a simple fact

That you were out of my league
All the things I believed
You were just the right kind
Yeah, you were more than just a dream
You were out of my league
Got my heartbeat racing
If I die, don't wake me
'Cause you are more than just a dream

she glaced backstage before she walked back from the mic moving her body to the rhythm and playing her guitar before she ran back to the mic when she realised she was late for the next verse

You were out of my league
All the things I believed
You were just the right kind
Yeah, you were more than just a dream
You were out of my league
Got my heartbeat racing
If I die, don't wake me
'Cause you are more than just a dream

she slowly backed away from the mic, focused on her guitar as she let jonathan and darcy carry the next part

More than just a dream
(More than, more than)
(More than, more than)
(More than, more than)
More than just a dream
(More than, more than)
(More than, more than)
(More than, more than)
More than just a dream
(More than, more than)
(More than, more than)
(More than, more than)

she walked back to sing one last line without any instrument in the background

More than just a dream

she smiled when she heard the crowd applaud the three

"happy holidays people" the three smiled at the crows before disappearing backstage

"i think it went okay" jonathan said as ava and regina made eye contact, walking in opposite directions

next up was cady, gretchen, karen and regina with their regular performance. ava never stopped for their performance before but this time? it was different. she watched the whole performace from backstage

it was going well untill regina fell down making ava's eyes go widen in shock. the four ended the performace immediately as they hurried backstage. ava looked at regina with worried eyes, wanting to check up but her hands were tied

later that night ava, instead of going home, drove over to regina's as it was the only time she could speak to the girl. she as usual climbed up the window and knocked on it, making regina open it from the inside as ava stepped in

"hi" she said noticing regina's eyes blood red, she couldn't control it when she pulled regina in for a hug and wrap her arms around the blonde "it's okay. i am here"

she whispered her hands on the back of regina's head as the latter sobbed into her shoulder.

"do you think-" regina's voice broke as she pulled away "do you think i am fat?" she asked making ava's eyes soften

"apart from that, you're also water, protein and glucose" ava said in hopes of lifting the mood a little. she was relieved when a small smile came on regina's lips "and to answer your question, no, to me you're perfect.you're gorgeous, beautiful hell you're more than perfect" she held regina's face to make the girl look into her eyes "your eyes, your hair, your face, your body, your everything. to me you're perfect regina." she hugged regina again "what made you feel that way?"

"it's just" regina sniffled "the spring fling dress won't fit me anymore and the whole school's been saying it"

"the school?" ava asked "are you kidding me? you're the regina george. who cares what they think? they're just salty"

"and all i've been eating are those kalteen bars and i've gained like 10 pounds-"

"wait wait wait wait wait" she pulled away making regina pause and look at her "kalteen bars?"

"yeah, cady gave them to me"

"cady you say" she parted her lips in thought "sweetheart, kalteen bars make you gain weight, not lose it. i remember having a lot of those when i was hospitalized"

"what" regina asked fuming with anger

"hello?" Ava's spoke on her phone when regina had fallen asleep

"Ava" the husky voice on the other side spoke

"dad" she said "what's up?"

"I just wanted to hear my daughter's voice" he said, but Ava knew there was more to it

"you wanna play father daughter now? after everything" she asked scoffing quietly as to not let regina hear her

"Ava" his voice softened "it's important, can we talk in private?"

Ava had resented her father for as long as she can remember but at the same time a part of her longed for that connection

"how about a drive?" she knew he loved road trips as much as her

"yes" he lit up "your car? mine's a bit of a wreck right now"

"no wonder" she commented "I'll come home soon" she hung up
