An eight year old karla ran to the backyard. She giggled and reached the swings. Yolanda got on one. Martin and bernice came to the backyard.
"Do you want to get in the swing?", asked martin.
A four year old bernice looked up at martin and nodded.
"Alright girls, after one of you are done, bernice will take a swing", said martin.
Dexter went down the slide. Martin lll went next.
Coretta came outside with a tray full of lemonade.
"Lemonade", said coretta.
Dexter, martin lll, yolanda, and coretta ran towards the table and took a glass.
"Drink it slow", said coretta.
Karla took a glass and began drinking.
Martin took bernice to the swings.
Dexter and martin played baseball. Karla went to her mother. Coretta ran her hand through karla's hair.
Karla ran to the monkey bars and started climbing.
"Don't fall now", said martin.
"Yolanda, go watch your sister", said coretta.
Yolanda made her way towards karla.
After a while, coretta went inside. It was just karla and martin.
"Karla come here, I wanna talk to you about something", said martin.
Karla made her way towards martin and sat on his lap.
"What do you wish more in this world?", asked martin.
Karla thought for a second then looked at martin.
"To be friends with the white people, I'm a nice girl, I don't know why they threw stuff at me during the march", replied karla and looked down.
Martin pecked the side of karla's head.
"What else?", asked martin.
"To go in the same schools as them, play in the same playground as them, swim in the same pool as them, they have it all", replied karla.
"You know....when I was growing up, I was friends with a white boy, but his father didn't let him be friends with me because I was black", said martin.
"I know you'll change the world daddy", said karla and hugged martin.
Martin hugged karla back.
Coretta came to the backyard. She saw martin and karla hugging each other.
"Dinner's ready", said coretta.
Karla ran inside the house.
Martin stood up.
"What were you two talking about", asked coretta.
"Just about life", replied martin and wrapped his arm around his wife.
Karla sat down.
"Mama, I'm so hungry, I can eat a horse", said yolanda.
Coretta served the kids.
"Eat slow and finish everything, that way, you won't be full", said coretta and sat down.
Karla was sitting next to martin and began eating.

Karla got under the covers and yawned. Coretta fixed the sheets.
"There we go, my baby is all comfortable now", said coretta.
"Don't let the bed bugs bite", said martin.
"They're not real right mama?", asked karla.
"Of course not baby, go to sleep now", said coretta.
