I've been reading other KotLC theories books, and one of the things that a lot of them debated is what Brant's mysterious redacted last name was and, by extension, who he was related to. One of the theories—I can't remember where I saw this one—was that Brant was Marella's older brother.
Parts of it make sense, like why Marella manifested as a Pyrokinetic, and why Fintan wasn't surprised by that, but there's also something that makes it a lot less likely.
I was rereading Everblaze when I found this line: "Brant's family was also in the Nobility..." Back in Keeper of the Lost Cities, Marella says, "My family may not be Nobility..."
If Brant's family is Nobility and Marella's isn't, then they can't have the same family.
There are still ways around this, like if Marella's parents resigned from the Nobility (or if Shannon forgot about these two lines), but this info makes it a lot more unlikely.
