Chapter 4
Yareli
Glancing around at the small interior of the house, I was surprised by how human-like it was. I had expected Dioris' home to be something more comfortable for that of a jellyfish sentient just like how I imagined Orman's home being closer suited for a lobster of his size. I was also fully convinced that everybody on this planet was taller than me.
When we first entered Dioris' home, we were greeted by a small living room with dark wooden floors that looked like they were collecting dust. The room itself barely had any furniture in it besides an equally dusty looking dark sofa that sat beneath a bay window that held a few planter pots with something growing and possibly dying in them. "Let me get some light in here. I'm sorry for the unkempt appearance of my house," Dioris spoke up as she placed her translucent hand against the wall near the door before light flooded the small room and the apparent adjoining kitchen. I hadn't noticed the kitchen when we first came in because of how dark that half of the room was, but it was small just like the living room. A small dusty table was pushed against the wall with two matching chairs pushed beneath it. At the furthest wall sat a clay stove that stood out from the rest of the room while a few dark counters spread across the wall next to it.
"I understand especially with you being the head healer and all. You must never have time to be here?" I questioned as she shook her head before peering out the bay window.
"You're right. I usually work in the ocean more often as most of our people stay down there, but a few of our people have adapted and moved to the shore because they prefer it more. So, whenever I go back and forth from here to there, I'll drop by here even though I do not require much sleep. Sometimes, I just like to rest away from it all," she explained while turning her attention back to me. "Do you have any questions for me?" She asked while floating in place as quite a few came to mind.
"I've been so curious since I've met you, but how exactly are you floating right now? There's no water, so would it be the air? What about your face? Do you have eyes or any facial features?" I asked as she softly laughed.
"So, my body is covered in bells like the one upon my head which are filled with water that allow me to float. The water is able to stay on my bells thanks to my magic," she acknowledged while holding up her hand as water moved around her translucent hand like air. "Sometimes, I'll need to renew the water as it does eventually evaporate. Just a quick shower will do as you've seen."I nodded before she lifted the large bell where her translucent human-like face greeted me back. She didn't have any eyes, but I had a feeling she could still see me. "My face, as you see, isn't like most of the other beings. I do not have eyes, but I can sense everything around me enough to know where it is. When I adapted to land, my senses became much sharper. I do not have a nose, so my sense of smell comes strictly from my entire body. I have small sensories all over my body that each have a different role to play," she explained as I stared up at her in amazement.
"That's pretty amazing, Dioris," I expressed with shock as she smiled. "So, what about your mouth? Are you able to use it like I do or is it used for speaking and expressing yourself?"
"My mouth is like a regular mouth. I express myself and eat from it. Now that I've explained myself and my anatomy, I think you should get some rest." She floated over towards the kitchen before floating over to the wall and placing her hand on it. "You can rest upstairs in the bedroom," she offered as the wall opened and slid into itself to reveal stairs leading up.
"What about you?" I asked as we started to ascend the stairs while I followed behind her. The dark hardwood stairs were just as dusty as the rest of the house. I was sure I even spotted some cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. Was it possible that this planet also had spiders? My curiosity peaked even more to discover what all this planet had to offer now. Once we were on the equally dusty landing, she led me down the wide hallways with old wooden doors on both sides before stopping in front of one.
