Chapter 31

Inzeh

Fuck. I looked around at all the sick citizens that we were attending to in the healer's building of the second largest city near the kingdom. All of the beds were filled with sick and hurting people of the city and to make things worse, I was due to go back to my mate before the hunting season had begun. That was a few weeks ago and now, we're a week or so from the mating season. The primal side of me seemed to grow worse by the day. Even the voices grew louder and more aggravated.

"Your majesty, thank you for helping out!" One of the healers bowed to me as she approached. With the amount of sick citizens increasing by the minute, the staff had grown overwhelmed and needed assistance so Orman and I stepped in while his father went and talked to the head of the healers. "I'm sorry that we're keeping you away from your mate during this entire ordeal," she apologized as I nodded. "In fact, we are very thankful to her," she added, much to my surprise.

"Oh?" I asked as she nodded.

"Had it not been for her research on our people, we wouldn't have found out certain things until it was too late. We also have some of our people who live on the land and they praise her to the suns and back. So, you have our allegiance when it comes to putting you on the throne as long as your mate ascends as well," she answered with a nod as I couldn't help the smile that formed on my face. If we could get this city to back me, all the others would fall in line and we'd be able to move forward immediately with the protection protocols for our tribe before we were attacked.

"Thank you. My mate is dedicated to helping as many people as she can and she doesn't care what species or how much money you have. She's a charming and intelligent woman," I replied, feeling proud of my mate. Just as the lady was about to say something, my telecommunicator beeped as I excused myself. Stepping into a less populated hall, I answered as Dioris materialized on the screen. "Dioris, how's the situation over there?" I asked as she filled me in on everything, especially the part where my mate was supposed to be meeting an Ijirat. "What?! By herself?!"

"Yes, but we cannot leave the water, your highness. The poison almost killed Huru, so I can imagine what it'll do to you," she informed me as I sighed in frustration. "But, there is one way you could follow her without leaving the ocean. Yareli will probably be mad that I mentioned it, but it should be fine as long as you remain unseen. Especially with the suns coming up soon."

"I will. Tell me what I have to do and where I have to go." It didn't take Dioris long to explain the directions to me and warn me about the maids my papa had seen helping the Ijiratian. If they knew any better, they'd know not to be seen. Informing Orman was easy, but the head advisor was another story.

"What do you mean you have to leave now? I'm almost finished negotiating with the head healer of this center," the head advisor whispered harshly as I frowned at him.

"My mate comes before anything. I cannot be a king without her. Where she goes, I go," I told him as I fought to keep my feral side under control. Now was not the time to lash out. "If you understand, you'll handle this in my absence."

"Did I make a mistake assuming you'd be a better replacement for your mother? When our kingdom is in need of a King, you're ready to run to your mate instead of staying and making sure everything works out?" He asked incredulously as a growl ripped through me.

"My mate saved your King and the youngest prince! She's done more for this kingdom than you and the Queen have ever done. She's listened to the people, yet you two can't seem to do that at all!" I roared as the head advisor looked at me surprised. "Don't you EVER say anything like that again! Soon, she will be your Queen and you WILL show her the respect she deserves!" I shouted as the head advisor stepped back with a disgruntled look on his face.
