Chapter 21

Yareli

To say I was surprised by Inzeh's surprise was an understatement. He watched me with an expecting look on his face as the cat mouse creature wagged its large fluffy tail at me. This couldn't have been the same small kit that was following me at the Udaspea tribe. No, that kit was barely past my ankles in height. This one though, was almost up to my stomach and Inzeh's thighs. "This couldn't be that kit," I voiced in disbelief as Inzeh smiled.

"It is. Kolsits are known to adapt to their environments at quick speeds. That also involves growing three times its size when in dire situations," he explained as the kit grew more excited while looking between me and Inzeh.

"Dire situations? What was the dire situation that caused it to grow this big so quickly?" I asked, still confused and surprised that this was in fact the same kit.

"You left," he answered as I turned my attention towards the kit who squeaked almost as if it were greeting me. "Kolsits are intelligent creatures and will imprint on whomever they deem worthy. So, I guess this little one deemed you worthy that it swam along with me when I came back to land," he explained as his words almost knocked me off my feet. How could this little being swim in the ocean when it didn't have gills let alone anywhere to breach the surface from the Udaspea tribe? It took a while to get to the surface from the hole leading up to the Udaspea tribe.

"That was nice of you to put an air bubble around it, so it could swim along with you." I smiled as Inzeh looked at me weird just as the Kolsit cautiously approached me. The closer I looked at it, the more I felt it was also part dog with the face mixed between a cat and mouse. It rubbed up against my body like a cat with the force of a giant dog as my whole body moved with it. "Such strength," I mumbled in surprise as it began to purr like a cat.

"No air bubble. It adapted like I said," he explained as I looked up at him in surprise. "When I say it adapts to different environments, I really mean that. In a way, it's like you. It can grow gills just like you can when you enter the water and upon returning to land, it'll disappear."

"Has it always been like that?" I asked as he seemed to think about that question before humming.

"It's known that they can do that, but this is the first I've seen one this desperate to get to the person it imprints on. It must've taken a liking to you." He smiled as I ran my hand through the pale blue fur which I could've sworn wasn't its original color. It was soft between my fingers like that of the long haired cats that preoccupied my island back on Earth.

"Can we keep it? I was under the impression that it belonged to Rehgea's dad," I admitted as the kit chirped happily while rubbing its head against my hand like an eager cat begging for some head scratches to which I happily gave it.

"He was the one who offered the kit to me. It had been waiting by the entrance where we came in after you left," he answered as I was surprised that such a small creature put so much trust in me. "Kolsits usually adapt when they're adults, but to see this kit do that immediately after you left, I was surprised." He softly chuckled.

"Wait, so it's not an adult now with this size?" I wondered as he shook his head.

"Nope, they grow much bigger than this. Have you seen the creature that Kaisen was on?" He asked as I thought about the creature Kaisen was leading around that was almost the same height as him. Again, was everything on this planet taller than me? Even the creatures were. "That's a Sran. It can fly and surf through sand and water, same as the Kolsit except sand is a little more difficult for them to swim through especially with their fur. So, I wouldn't be surprised if this little grows more in size in the next few weeks to come," he explained as I happily scratched its chin as it purred louder.
