Since waking up Mandisa had thought the gods were punishing her. Everything that happened in the present made her even more sure. How else could they put the perfect man in her path and then allow him to feel nothing for her?

Mandisa had run into Vincent Griffith too many times in New Orleans. It was like they were magnets, drawn to each other then the moment they got too close, they were repelled apart. She would just be walking down the street when she'd run into him. Aft first. they'd stop and talk. Then he began avoiding her and she didn't know why. She asked Elijah about it. "Is there something wrong with me? Am I unattractive in this time?" They were eating dinner together. Kol and Rebekah left to a party but it wasn't really Elijah's thing unless a scheme is involved. He seemed surprised about the topic of conversation.

"Not even in the slightest. You are very beautiful for any time. But around twenty or so years ago, people decided it was not okay for older teens to be with full grown adults. There were studies that said brains don't mature until 25 so therefore it is inapproporiate."

"But I'm immortal. I'm always going to look this age."

"Hence one of the issues we've always run into. It hindered Rebekah and Kol more than I."

"So I should talk to them?" Elijah smirked and Mandisa laughed, "So I shouldn't talk to them?"

"No, it would do no good. Kol has never had a significant relationship and Rebekah, well, it's just different."

"So what do I do?"

"I do not know, I am sorry to say. But Mandisa, you are very lovely and intelligent and witty. Maybe the longer he gets to know that part of you, the more likely he will be to look past your youthful appearance."

Mandisa found herself distracted luckily. Bonnie had applied to a university close to New Orleans. She was going to be moving closer which Mandisa enjoyed. She also found that Rebekah's shopping preoccupied her time. Rebekah would leave for days then return with dozens of things for Mandisa to try on. She called it a fashion show. "Another gown? They don't wear these in this time," Mandisa told her.

"Well you never know when we might have a party or go to a party. It's good to have options."

"Okaty, Beks," she said, having learned it was better to just agree with Rebekah when it came to clothes. Mandisa liked her clothes but not shopping for them. Luckily, Rebekah understood her style and bought the best designer clothes to fit it.

"Are you okay? you've seemed down lately."

"Oh I'm fine. Just adjusting. New times and all," she said without elaborating. Rebekah nodded, not wanting to push.

"Do you want to go out for dinner tonight? We can go to Rosseau's."

"Sure that sounds nice. Maybe I'll see Monique. I can tell her how well her flower is doing,," she said then moved to take off her clothes and put on something more casual.

They were walking down Bourbon Street and Mandisa's heart jumped. She knew he was there. Somewhere. Then he appeared in front of them. "Vincent," she called out and he turned to look at her. She smiled widely and his was more demure.

"Hello, Mandisa. Rebekah. How are you both?"

"Well, thank you. We're headed to Rosseau's. Would you like to join us? You can tell me more about university. My cousin Bonnie is going soon and told me I can do something called audit classes," she said.

"How did you know I went to university?"

"Your mother. She came to my Esotre celebration and we've spoken quite often since. So?"
