"Meko mumma paas sohna hain," Mahir said, pouting as he stared at Nandini, handling his siblings.

"Mujhe bhi," Manik responded, staring at her. Mahir raised his face from Manik's shoulder with a glare, pushing Manik's face towards himself and away from his mother as he warned, "Woh meri mumma hain. Aapke paas ni soyengi."

"Meri biwi hain," Manik argued back.

"Pata ni kaise ban gi," Mahir muttered.

"Abey oh," Manik said, offended. Mahir passed him a fake smile, and then sighed as he looked back towards Nandini.

"Hey bhagwan ji, abhi aur bache mat dena mumma ko," Mahir suddenly prayed, making Manik smirk as he stared at his wife's four months pregnant self.

"Agar ye maango ge ki aur bhai mat dena toh shayd bhagwan tumhari sun le," Manik informed Mahir.

"Aapko kaise pata? Aap bhagwan ho?" Mahir enquired.

"Abhi isse aage maine kuch bola toh tumhari Maa mere janaza nikal degi," Manik replied back. Mahir frowned at him, not understanding anything.

Nandini was standing beside Manik, handing him a glass of water as he came back from work for lunch. She stared at the entry as Mahir entered in after playing, crying loudly. Immediately walking towards him, as she forwarded her hand to wipe his tears, he slapped her hand away from him, making her heart drop. Crying, Mahir climbed in his dad's lap.

"Arey kya hua mere lla?" His dadi enquired, swallowing her medicines with water while trying to console him. "Esse kyu roh rahe ho?"

"Mumma aur Papa ache ni hain. Mere dost ne bataya ki mumma papa paas soyi iss liye bache hue hain." Nandini stood there, gaping while Mahir continued, "Main toh mumma papa ke beech main sota tha–" Mahir hiccuped while crying loudly, "toh itne bache kaha se aaye?"

Manik coughed out the water, his condition somewhere between dying in embarrassment or laughing. When he felt Nandini glaring at him in anger, her face red in embarrassment, he quietened down and got up suddenly, saying to no one in particular, "Woh mujhe yaad aaya maine khana apne dost ke saath karna tha."

Before he could escape, Nandini held his arm, gritting out in anger, "Agar aapne abhi ek kadam bhi bahar rakha na, toh kasam se aapko puri zindagi kamre main nahi aane dungi."

Manik mentally groaned, turning around as Mahir continued to question his dadi, "Bache kaha se aaye?"

He started laughing, before immediately covering it with a cough while Nandini's eyes widened as Manik's mother, influenced by medicines, said, "Beta, ab kya batau main tujhe. Ye pati patni ka rishta hi essa hota hain. Agar pat–"

"Maa, main samjhadungi," Nandini interrupted, making the old woman huff. When Nandini moved forward, ready to pick up Mahir. Manik immediately walked over, scolding Nandini, "Dimag kharab hain? Pait main bacha hain, bhul gayi kya?"

Wrong use of words, as Mahir's cries turned louder hearing Manik. The poor child was traumatised. Manik immediately picked up a crying Mahir, despite his protests and carried him to their room.

Nandini was ready to cry as despite her efforts to explain lame excuses to Mahir for the past half an hour, he refused to come near her. Manik sighed, staring at the son-mother duo. After another fifteen minutes, Mahir finally bought her lies and hugged her tightly to sleep.

Nandini felt her head suddenly pounding as she got up from the bed, her eyes dead set on her husband. Manik arched his eyebrows, as she glared at him while walking closer to him, making Manik mutter, "Maine kya kiya hain?"
