◇ Akira's POV: ◇

I stand outside Ava's biology class, waiting for her as she talks with the teacher. I pick at my nails and wince when I hit a certain spot.

I look up when I hear a commotion and see a big group of people coming this way, with none other than Blake, in the front.

I widen my eyes and quickly duck into the biology classroom.

Both Ava and Ms.Adams, the biology teacher, turn their heads and stare at me. I wave awkwardly at them, while quietly saying, "Hi..sorry for not knocking before coming in and being all rude, it's just that I wanted..." I scramble for a reason for my behavior, and settle with, "To check if Ava was done yet." I smile sheepishly.

Ava gives me a suspicious look but says, "Don't worry I know you're hungry, but I'm almost done Aki. Just wait about 2 more minutes, I just have 1 more question to ask." She smiles at me reassuringly.

Yeah I came in because I'm hungry and not because I'm trying to run away from my childhood best friend.

Yup.

"Ok, I'll just wait outside then..." I turn around and head out.

I resume my position on the wall and wait for Ava to finish talking to her teacher.

An idea pops into my head as I'm leaning against the wall.

I take my phone out of my pocket and go on instagram and find Blake's profile.

I scroll down and view some recent photos he took with, I'm guessing, his new friends here at our school.

I continue to scroll down, until I get to a photo of his new house with some kind of party.

"Oooh, looking at Blake's profile now are we?" Ava whispers.

"Shit you scared the crap outta me!" I scream and hold a hand to my heart.

Ava shrugs, "Sorry not sorry."

"Ava," I groan as I quickly put my phone back in my pocket and away from her evil prying eyes.

"So? You done? Can we get food now? I'm hungry," I complain and drag the last word out.

Ava rolls her eyes and says, "Yes yes I'm done, stupid. Let's go get food."

I roll my eyes but let out a sound of excitement and grab Ava's hand to drag her all the way to the cafeteria, which the second we step in, can hear all the talking and laughing behind the closed cafeteria doors.

I continue to drag Ava to the lunch line, and only release her hand when she's right behind me in line.

Ava gives me a look and complains, "Aki. You made me stub my toe on the way here."

"Sorry not sorry," I shrug while mimicking her voice from earlier.

We pay for our lunch and walk out of the cafeteria to sit on the bleachers outside; we prefer the outside since it's much less suffocating than in the cafeteria, and it works for me since I don't have to see Blake.

Ava turns her head towards me as she eats her fries, "So?"

I turn to look at her with one eyebrow raised, "Sooo?"

Ava rolls her eyes and says, "What about Blake? You can't avoid him forever you know."

I stare in front of me and sigh, "Yeah, I know, but it's not like I can convince my parents to transfer me to a new school without a good reason. And plus, I just have complete senior and the rest of this year before I head to college, where I will probably never see Blake again. Problem solved."

Ava's eye softens, "Aki, you know damn well you can't avoid him forever, and even if you never see him again, he lives in your neighborhood remember? And you might have classes with him. Maybe we can set something up to avoid him for a while, but I'm telling you now, it will not last very long avoiding him."

"He lives in my neighborhood?" I whip my head towards her.

Ava gives me a pointed look. "That's all that you heard? But yes, he does."

I groan, "Fuck my life."

"Well, maybe you could just leave your house earlier or later than usual?" Ava suggests and shrugs her shoulders.

"Good idea! I'll leave maybe earlier so I don't bump into him whenever he starts heading to school. And now that I think about it, I have history, health, and math class with him."

"That's not too bad, I have health with you, so we can blend you in with me. Just turn your back to him at all times. But for history and math, I can't help you," Ava says grimly.

I sigh, "It's fine, I'll figure something out." I finish my lunch and proceed to walk down the bleachers and throw my trash in the trash can.

Ava comes down with her tray and dumps the rest of her lunch in the trash can, "Let's go drop off our trays in the cafeteria, and then restroom?"

"Of course, let's go," I reply.

As we walk, I hug Ava sideways, "Thank you." Then I hook our arms together with our elbows and make our way to the cafeteria.

We walk into the cafeteria and put the trays in the tray box.

"Let's go before Blake spots us," I say.

Ava nods and starts to walk towards the exit.

◇ Blake's POV: ◇

I sit at the popular crowd's table, not a care about the conversations around me. My eyes moving around, watching students and observing this new school.

I watch as two girls walk in and drop off their lunch trays in a box.

The one with brown-hair takes into my notice, and she seems oddly familiar.

It's probably someone I saw in the hallways.
