charlotte's POV

I bit my lip, crossing my arms, my feet tapping against the cobblestones outside of the pub. Did that just happen? Again?

"Do you think she actually called him?" I ask Ella with a concerned tone.

She's pacing up and down in front of the pub entrance, "God! I don't fucking know!", she exhales, flailing her arms in the air in frustration.

"I thought it was different this time, I thought Eli was the one for her!" A tear threatens to spill from my eyelids as my teeth clamp down further on the skin of my bottom lip, the pain of this action temporarily distracting me from thinking of the worst.

Ella stops, now staring back at me, "Shit! Eli! Uhm, maybe they fell out before they got here? We should go ask him, now."

"I really fucking hope they did otherwise- no I don't want to think about that." I reply, my voice wavering.

Ella and I run round the side of the pub to reach its garden. We spot the lads with a much more sober Anaïs, them smoking together.

"Eli." I let out with a huff, still trying to catch my breath, "Is everything okay with you and Amy?"

His grinning head turns to us, "Uh-," he trails off before hiccuping, causing the group to laugh at his state. He's obviously incredibly drunk. Just great when his girlfriend could no longer be his or worse, in danger.

"I think so, why?" He slurs his words.

Ella and I exchange a look, one that captures Anaïs' attention, "Oh my god, this isn't anything to do with the guy who Amy was talking to just? James I think his name was?" She asks, now stamping her cigarette out with her docs, eyes flickering between Eli and us girls.

Just hearing his name seems to sober up Eli, his eyes widening with both anger and worry. He looks straight back to me, "Lottie, who's James?"

I can't belive he doesn't know.

I sheepishly lower my head, tears now tumbling down my cheeks, and look away from Eli's sorrowful eyes. Ryan clocks onto my distress and immediately runs to my side to comfort me, placing a delicate hand on my waist, stroking his thumb up and down, and using his other hand to bring me into his chest.

I sob into his torso as Ella vaguely explains the situation, leaving out the personal parts Amy should've already told Eli. "In short, James is her ex. Their relationship was, well, not the best and their breakup even worse. But she just left with him. He said she phoned him to take her home. I don't know if she did actually phone him, but something like this has happened before and it ended pretty ugly."

"I can't believe she didn't tell me. She seemed fine when I left her? Oh god," he lets out a heavy sigh, "Did I do something? Was it the drinking?", he begins to panic.
