Delta's POV
I took Darcy home after a little bit to get ready for my date. I had to practically beg her to leave. Darry really kept her occupied playing football.
She helped me get ready, kinda. She kinda just followed me around and watched. But it was sweet.
When it got closer to eight, Darcy stared out my window and watched for him to get here.
"He's here! He's here!" She yelled.
"Alright. I'll be home soon. Don't go to bed without me, okay? We've got movies to watch!" I said with a grin.
"Don't worry, I'll be up!"
I giggled a bit and tried to get to the door before dad did.
He rang the doorbell and I opened it. "Hey." I said with a smile.
Darcy ran up behind me. "Hi!"
Dominick smiled. "Hey, there." He said with a wave.
"You ready to go?" I asked.
"Yeah... are your parents here?"
"Oh! My dad is... I think. Why?" I asked nervously.
"I just thought maybe I should say 'hi.' So they know where you're at and who you're with... I dunno."
"Oh... sure!" I said in shock. "Dad!" I called out.
Christine and dad came out of the dining room and smiled quickly. "Hey." Dad said. "You must be Dominick. Darcy's been goin' on and on about you." He said shaking his hand.
"Yeah. I just thought I'd say hi."
"I'm Christine. Tom's fiancé." She said shaking his hand next.
"Oh! The wedding. It was mentioned briefly. Congratulations."
"Thank you." Christine followed. "We won't hold you two up. Have fun tonight."
"Don't worry, I won't be out too late."
Dad laughed. He always thought it was funny that I was home so early sometimes. He says I'm an adult and I don't have to be so strict on myself anymore, but I don't see a problem with it. "See ya, guys."
"Bye, Delta!" Darcy said quickly as I closed the door behind me.
We walked to his car and he opened the door for me. "Thank you." I said with a smile.
We drove off and he took me to a nice restaurant downtown.
We sat down and ordered before we had good conversation.
"So, your dad's gettin' married. How long has he been seeing someone else?" He asked.
"Almost three years. It kinda sucks, because he's only been divorced for three years. It was pretty quick."
"I'm sorry. My parents divorced when I was pretty young. Only child. But my mom moved halfway around the world. All the way to Australia and haven't talked to her since. My step-mom has been the best mom to me."
"It's good you have someone. I miss my mom a lot. I actually have three younger siblings. Darcy is ten, Donny is eight, Damon is six. My parents thought kids would fix their marriage problems. I love my siblings to death, but I could've told them kids solve nothing."
We both laughed. "So, do you work?" He asked.
"Yeah. I've been waitressing at this diner just outside of town for a while now. Two and a half years? Almost three? I needed something to do with someone new in the house, which was why I got the job. Now I'm just waiting to start the rest of my life." I said with a slight smile.
"Yeah, tell me about it. I had no idea what I wanted to do. I didn't go to college, so I thought maybe being an electrician. Sounded kinda cool. But my dad got sick and so I took over his restaurant."
"You own your own restaurant? That's pretty cool."
"Yeah. It's a tough business, but I've got good staff and a good life ahead of me. This is actually the first bit of time off I've had since I took it over a couple months ago. Still lots of learning to do."
"Oh, I'm sure." I said with a laugh. "I don't know why I didn't go to college. I always wanted to be a teacher. I think when I got to high school I realized that I wasn't cut out for that job." I said with a laugh. "So now I'm just stuck. I keep thinking an opportunity is going to appear out of nowhere. I couldn't tell you why."
"Hey, blessings come at the most unexpected times."
"I guess. I hope a blessing comes soon. I'm so tired of waiting."
"Patience might help."
I laughed. "I try to be patient, but that's definitely one of my flaws."
He grinned. "If you were to pick one thing to do right now, what would you do?"
"Job wise?"
"Anything."
I smiled. "Well, that one's easy. I wanna travel. I wanna explore. See new places. Meet new people. All I've ever known is Tulsa. My little siblings are more well travelled than me by just moving up north a bit with my mom. But I wanna go to Europe. Greece, Switzerland, even China."
"A traveler? That's interesting. What's your dream destination."
"Paris. Easily. The museums, the Eiffel Tower! It's been my goal for so long now."
"I believe you'll make it there one day." I grinned a bit. "I have a question, and it might be odd to ask on a first date, but do you have any exes?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Wow. I thought that was a topic to avoid on first dates." We both laughed. "But... yeah. Two. Maybe three? Two people for sure. I dated this guy named Dallas in high school, we broke up. To make him jealous, I dated this guy named Will. He was terrible. And then I got back with Dallas. We broke up about a year ago and I've been single since."
"You dated the same guy twice?"
"Look, this might be kinda a deal breaker for you, but I'm still friends with Dallas. And actually, most of my friends are guys. And I know that scares a lot of people off. So I figured get it out of the way now. I can't lose my best friends. The reason Will and I actually broke up was, because he wanted me to choose him over my friends and I couldn't. They've been there for me so much. And if this goes anywhere I'd want you to meet them. But if you think that's weird or makes you uncomfortable, it might be best to say something now." I said quickly. I ended my rambling with a smile.
He stared at me for a moment and I got nervous. "I have no problem with it. I have friends that are girls and my ex actually broke up with me, because of it. So it seems as if you and I are in the same boat."
