Delta's POV
three months later

I guess you could say things went back to their twisted normal again. I still live with my dad. Dallas and I are still together. Karaoke on some Tuesdays. Bartending downtown.

What a life.

But I had no complaints. I decided I wasn't really in a rush anymore. I gave Dallas all this advice at the hospital and I had to take it. I'm still young. And I've got so much more life to live. What's the rush?

I was sitting at home watching the television and Dallas came over. "Hey. Wanna go do something?" He asked.

"Hello to you too, Dal."

"Hey. Wanna go do something?"

I raised an eyebrow. "Sure. What are we doing?"

"You'll see. Get ready."

I gave him a slight laugh. "I mean... I am ready. It's almost three in the afternoon. Are we going somewhere fancy?"

"No. Let's go."

"What are we doing? Better not be dinner. I just had lunch a couple hours ago." I said walking outside with him. We hopped in Bucks car and started driving without a response.

We went over by Soda's and at first I thought we were going there, but he passed it.  "Dally, where are we going? And why are we in such a rush?" I asked looking at how fast we were going.

"We're gonna be late."

"Late for what?" He still gave me no answer. "Alright... good talk." I mumbled.

We pulled up to this house I had never seen before. It was just past the Soda's. Right out of downtown in the suburbs.

"What is this?"

"An open house." He said getting out.

"An open house? For like... a party? In the middle of the day? Wow, is this what it's like being an adult?" I laughed to myself.

"No, someone is selling a house and we can go in and look at it."

I laughed until I realized he was serious. I saw the sign out front and just gave him a look of confusion. "Dally, what are we doing?"

"Don't you wanna go look?"

"I mean, you dragged me out here."

"No, I asked if you wanted to go."

"Fair point. I don't get why."

"To go to an open house!" He said with a grin.

I was confused by his demeanor. He seemed pretty excited to go here. I just didn't know why. Make me feel bad over something I can't afford? But alright... couldn't hurt I guess.

We walked through and the realtor was telling us some information at the front. We looked at some paperwork and went back outside.

"So, did ya like it?" He asked.

"Yeah, it's beautiful." I said plainly.

"You don't sound too excited."

"I don't understand. Was this a date or something?"

"No, Delta." He said mockingly. "I wanna buy a house."

I laughed again before realizing he was still being serious. "I mean, this is great, and no offense, but how are you going to afford it?"

"Oh, I must've forgot to mention, I got a job."

"Doing what? Bartending makes decent money, but I've only been there three months and it's just not enough."

"No, I got a real job. Construction work."

"Seriously?" I asked in shock.

"Yeah. You're right. Time to get our lives moving. And I want you to be right here with me."

"Dallas, that's amazing." I said hugging him. "Why didn't you say anything sooner?"

"Wanted it to be a surprise."

"You have a funny way with surprises." I said with a slight giggle.

"Yeah, yeah. I just heard about it a couple hours ago. And it closes at 3:30. Wanted to get us over here."

"Well, you had a ten minute car ride to explain."

"I was distracted."

I grinned. "Okay, what's going on?"

"What? You said you wanted to get out. Move on. This is the perfect start."

"I agree, but don't you think it's kinda fast?"

"Delta, I've known you for almost six years now. Just because we've only technically been together a few months now, doesn't mean we don't have the other two years of history."

"You're hard to reason with."

"Thanks." He said sarcastically.

I laughed. "I didn't think you were serious about us yet."

"I was lucky enough to get that first date with you. And I took that for granted. And then I fucked it up again. For a second time. This is my third chance, and probably my last. So if I fuck this up this time, I don't know what I'd do. I'm not making that same mistake again. I am serious about it and I'm tired of waiting. You always say you wanna start the rest of your life. Is that with me?"

"You know it is. After everything, I still go back to you every single time."

"You won't forever. So I'm making my move and I'm gonna get us where we need to be."

My heart skipped a beat as he said that. "Alright. You got me. Let's start looking for houses."

Dallas and I spent about another month searching for houses. I had dad help us out a bit, too. We figured out what we wanted, what we could live without, and what we needed.

And we finally put an offer in.

A single story house on the southwest of town. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, one half and one full, a pretty decent sized living room, and a beautiful backyard.

It was everything I could have ever wanted.

Things started to get real.

This wasn't like when I moved in with Dominick. I actually had a place of my own. A place I paid for. That I worked hard for. And that made it all the better.

And I had a better feeling that I was doing this with Dally.
