Delta's POV
I looked around. I was still in a black tunnel with a big white light above me. But I could feel my hands. I could feel my hair on my back. I felt my feet and my legs.
I felt alive.
"I'm so sorry..."
I looked around to see where the voice was coming from.
And then I wasn't in a hole anymore.
It was just dark with a bright light.
I started to open my eyes, but the light above me shocked me and I closed my eyes.
I went to move my hands and rub my eyes, but I hesitated when I felt something on both of my hands.
I rubbed my eyes and looked around.
"What...?" I whispered to myself. I was able to focus again and I realized I was in a hospital room, I think? "Dallas?" I asked softly.
Dally stood up quickly still holding my right hand. "You're awake..." He mumbled.
"I'm awake..." He just told me to wake up when we were in France...
France... when and why were we in France?
Why did I think we were in France?
"Oh, my God." He mumbled.
His hands went to my cheeks and his lips to mine. I gasped as I realized he was kissing me, but I didn't stop him.
He finally pulled apart and he was about two inches away from me. "What's happening?" I asked. My voice came out scratchy. My throat was dry.
"You're alive..." I noticed his eyes start to water. "I can't believe it..."
"Why? What's going on?"
"I'm gonna get a nurse. Don't move."
"Not going anywhere..." I mumbled to myself.
I looked at my body. I had this pain in my stomach and my left hand and wrist.
Then everything started coming back to me.
I remembered it all. Even the weird dream I had. It was all so vivid.
I wanted to see my stomach. See if I was going to recover. I had to. I was awake. But I didn't touch anything. I felt a tube in my nose. Obviously to help me breathe. But I feel like I didn't need it.
A nurse and a doctor came running in as I was looking at the bruises on my arm, I assume from the car accident.
"Unbelievable." The doctor said.
"I'll call her parents." The nurse said.
The doctor explained briefly to me that he had to run some tests blah blah blah.
But I didn't care. I wanted to see my friends. My family. Figure out how long I was asleep. Wonder why I had such an odd dream.
Understand why Dallas kissed me?
Were we together?
How much did I miss?
I finally had a moment to relax and the doctors left my room. Dallas and the nurse made some calls. Said my parents and friends were on the way.
Dallas sat next to me. "I wanna move around."
"Doctor said no." He muttered.
"I say 'yes.'" I sat up a bit and stretched my arms out. I was breathing on my own and the doctor said I had a fast and easy recovery ahead of me if I stayed rested.
I felt like I was on top of the world. Probably just because I was on like a thousand pain medications at the moment.
They gave me some more comfortable clothes to put on. Some blue scrubs. God, I hated wearing blue.
"Calm down. You just woke up."
"You kissed me." I said giving him a look.
He stared at me blankly. Like he had to question if that actually happened.
Did it?
"Yeah... I did..." He mumbled.
"Your parents are here to see you." The nurse said.
"Oh, let me see them." I said quickly.
"You need to relax. Lay down." She said.
"Just let me see my dad and Christine." I muttered.
She opened the door wider and three people walked in the room. "Mom!" I yelled.
Despite all the pain I had, I jolted up and hugged her. "Oh, my baby girl. You're alive." She said holding me softly.
"You came to see me." I said holding back tears.
"Of course I did. I'm so sorry... for everything. I wish I answered your calls more. I wish I was still close."
I wiped the tears off my face and hugged dad and Christine. "I can't believe this is real." Dad said with a smile.
"Okay, Delta, it's time for you to lay back down. You've got tons of people who want to see you."
I grinned a bit and went back to the bed after mom scolded me for moving too much.
"I swear, I'm fine." I groaned.
"You're insane." Christine said.
"Not the first time I've heard that." I said stretching my arms out.
"Delta?" Someone said from down the hallway.
"Sodapop!" I yelled.
He ran in the door and looked around in disbelief. "You're alive!"
I hopped out of bed again and hugged him. "Jesus..." He said with a laugh. He hugged me back and Ponyboy trailed in behind him, who then also received a big hug.
"Delta, sit down." Dad scolded.
I groaned and slumped back in bed. "How are you moving around so much?" Ponyboy asked.
"Pain medicine." I said with a slight laugh. "I feel like I'm floating."
The nurse walked through everyone. "We aren't gonna keep you on that forever. You need to lay down and let your body heal."
"I wanna go home." I drawled. I finally looked at my surroundings a bit closer. "What's with all the gifts? Who are they from?" I asked in shock.
"The entire town." Mom said with a laugh. "You've had visitors like crazy. Everybody loves Delta." She teased.
I rolled my eyes playfully. "That's cool. And I can't wait to leave and tell everyone 'thank you.'" I said with a smirk.
