“Will you hurry up? I’m about to late for my own Haldi because my best friend is too busy playing dress up!” Kabir’s frustrated voice boomed across the room as I combed by hair and sprayed on some deodorant.
“Shut up! I’ll be there in 2 minutes.” I call out to him and begin to gel up my hair, but then I remember, Naina liked to see it messy rather than all gelled up. With that thought in my head, I just leave it as it is and take the piece of paper that is going to save my love life.
“I’m sorry for being late, but looking good takes it’s time alright. Besides, tu kya itna bol raha hai, teri toh teri wali se shaadi ho rahi hai, yaha vaat toh meri lagi padi hai. (Besides, why are you so worked up? You’re getting married to your girl, I’m the one who’s gotten into trouble.)” I tell him, as we start to walk side by side out of the building.
“What’s that in your hand?” He points to the paper in my hand. I smirk at him and open it to show it to him.
“I’m glad you asked, dear amigo. This is
what is going to help me win Naina back. It is a heartfelt apology speech that I have carefully written for her, like you know the one Shah Rukh gave in ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’, which I’m going to tell her today. Go on read it, I’ve spent a lot of time writing and rewriting this so I’m pretty sure it’s full proof.” I hand him the letter to read it, and he takes it with his eyes narrowed, as if he was still skeptical. As he reads it, his expression changes from skeptical to impressed. “Damn, Aditya, this is actually good. If this won’t win her back, then I don’t know what will. Have you learned this by heart?”
My expression softens at this and give him small smile. “Yeh sabh by heart krne ki kya zaroorat hai jabh mai hamesha yehi sabh toh sochta rehta hu (Why would I by heart all of this, when these are the thoughts that always keep running around in my head.)”
He gives me a side hug and I immediately reciprocate it. “Go get that girl, Aditya Chauhan.” He pats me on the shoulder and I know I’m more determined than ever.

As we get inside the venue, my eyes automatically search for that one person I was desperate to see, but unfortunately she was the only person nowhere to be found. As I stand there helpless, looking at the people in the crowd, I realise that even Samaira was nowhere to be found.
I quickly walk over to Kabir’s dad, hoping to get some information. “Hey dad, when are the bride’s side people arriving?”
“Beta (son), they said that they will be arriving in- Oh look there they are!” He says and walks over to greet them.
I look behind and almost do a double take. There she was, in a stunning yellow anarkali, wearing those heavy kind of jhumkas, her hair curled up at the ends and a smile etched on her pink lips. For a moment, I thought I fell in love with her right there. I just watched as she spoke with Kabir’s dad and mom, smiling and laughing every now and then. I almost felt like a creep, just staring at her. But I couldn’t help it, she was simply breathtaking. I watched as her eyes shifted to me, the smile slightly fading from her lips, and I immediately looked away, like a kid caught stealing something.
Even though before coming here I was more than ready to tell her everything and get her back, now I was feeling nervous. I mean what if she still thinks I can’t be trusted? What if she just doesn’t like me as much as I like her? What if this all doesn’t matter— I get cut off my trail of negative thoughts by a tap on my shoulder.
When I turn around, its her. At this point, I should’ve told her how I felt, I should’ve said how much she meant to me, atleast I should’ve said ‘hello’. But what did I do instead you may ask? I just looked at her, actually no, stared at her. It was like a fanboy looking at his dreamgirl, and only came to my senses when she snapped her fingers at me.
