~~~~~Lina~~~~~
It was another day selling rebranded human junk to the people of the Boiling Isles. I was busy organizing the clocks and knick-nacks on one of the shelves, Mom was dusting the table and Luz was reading one of her witch books to King. I listened in because I found it kinda interesting, the way Luz got excited about reading the adventures the witch Azura went on. But I could tell from the way that Dusk was holding her ears to block out the noise of the reading that she wasn't as big a fan as Luz was of the story.
""Emboldened by the dishonor Hecate had shown. Azura lifted her staff to the cotton-candy skies and shouted 'I challenge you to a Witch's Duel'." And look, I drew a flipbook. Pew! Pew! Pew!"
"Show me the picture." King said.
"What?"
"Show me the picture." Luz turned the book around and showed the picture to King. My little brother scoffed at the beautiful drawing.
"Huh? I can draw better than that. You know, they once called me the King of Artists." He boasted.
"Uh, King, you're the King of Demons, remember?" I teased and turned to lean my arms against the table, "What did Mom and I teach you about lying?"
"That it was fine as long as you didn't get caught." He repeated and I nodded, "But what's important is that my followers would leave me offerings in fear of me."
"Well, I can offer you more of this tantalizing book." Luz offered and Mom groaned.
"Please stop reading that." She groaned and waved the duster she was holding in Luz's face, "It's flowery language is an insult to witches and driving away all our serious customers."
"Um, Eda?" Luz said and looked at the barren street, not a single soul being there to walk and shop, "There's no one here. There aren't even any other stands around. What's going on?"
"This is a bad omen." Mom said ominously and I knew exactly what she was talking about, "There must be something horrible happening today."
"Luz, Lina, something amazing is happening today." Someone shouted at us. We turned and saw Willow and Gus running towards us with a poster in her hand.
"Gus, Willow. Hey." Luz greeted and I saw the poster.
"It's the annual covention." Willow said, "Students get to see all the types of covens before they're placed in one. There's even a mystery guest this year."
"A job fair for witches." Luz said excitedly, but Mom and I weren't exactly happy to see something like this.
"Eda, can we go?" Luz asked leaning against my mother.
"Absolutely not." Mom answered and Luz slid to the ground, "I never joined a coven for a reason."
"Sure, it's like a fan club for witches, but it's so restricting!" I said and crossed my arms, "Why specialize only in one type of magic when you can do almost anything with every type of magic. It's completely lame."
"My girl's right. You're giving up your magical independence to be part of a crooked system." Mom pulled back a little bit when Willow groaned under her judgment, "Eh, but, you know, no judgment. In any case, I haven't been to one since we were girls."
""We"." Luz perked up, "Who's "we"? You have a mysterious past. Now we gotta go."
"No." Mom and I said.
"Okay. Then you leave me no choice." Luz gestured to King who took her Azura book before starting to read.
"You shall not shan't doeth no more harm' Azura callethed out..."
