Chapter 4 - Surprise and Shine

Yet again, the moon was rising over Inkopolis. All the inkfish of the city were now heading back to their apartments after a long day of Turf War, Grizzco shifts, and more.

One of these apartments belonged to Diade. His light was on as he prepared for his voyage into the desert with Off the Hook and Veronika.

Right now, he was rummaging through his messy room, searching for his water bottle. "Ugh... I really gotta clean in here." He muttered to himself as he tossed a heap of dirty clothes onto his bed.

Keeping his room clean whilst managing the Save Our Birds organization was difficult. He was almost always out doing some sort of protest or charity. There simply was never any time.

Frustrated, Diade started walking out to the kitchen. "Maybe I left it in the sin-"

SLAM! Diade stubbed his toe on a large, metal object.

"GAH!" He yelped in sudden pain. He grabbed his foot in pain and fell backward onto his bed.

After taking a few minutes to recover, Diade finally looked at what he had stubbed his toe on.

It was his water bottle!

"There you are!" The sea urchin exclaimed. He quickly grabbed it and walked back out to the kitchen to fill it with water.

As the water poured from the sink's metallic nozzle and into the metal bottle, Diade couldn't help but think of yesterday.

Veronika was a secret agent? Apart of some sort of secret agent society? What did that mean?!

Diade was also skeptical about this mysterious man they were meeting. All he knew was that he had connections to Off the Hook and Veronika.

He pushed his thoughts aside. "Don't worry, Diade. It's eco-friendly. It's from Off the Hook. There's nothing to worry about." He whispered to himself.

As the water finally reached the brink of the bottle, he turned the sink off. The sink water was a bit gross, but he refused to buy plastic water bottles. Too much pollution.

That's when Diade's sea cucumber phone rang. He pulled it out from his pocket.

It was Pearl! He quickly accepted.

"Yo, Diade! You almost ready?"

"Yep. I'll be on my way in a few."

"Sweet! I just know you're gonna like what Marina's got cooking. Cya then!"

Pearl hung up. Diade pulled on his boots, threw his backpack over his shoulder, flicked the light switch off, and headed out the door.

Back at Pearl's manor, she was sitting on the cozy swinging chair awaiting Diade and Veronika's arrival. She made sure not to sit on the hammock, she did not feel like falling off again.

The gate of her manor started slowly opening, and a small fish squeezed through a tiny gap. It was Smallfry!

Smallfry immediately ran up to Pearl. He jumped into the air and fist-bumped Pearl with his small flipper.

Veronika ran up the road from the gate to the main entrance. This time, she was in her yellow hero suit.

"Hey Pearl! Is Diade here yet?" She asked.

"Nope. He should be here soon, though..."

A new figure slipped through the gates. It was Diade!

"Right on cue!" Pearl laughed.

"Sorry for being a bit late..." Diade said, "There were barely any taxis tonight."

"It's fine, dude."
