MILES
I open my eyes when a shoe hits me in the leg. My eyelashes flutter as I get used to the light in the—where was I? I look around and find someone walking past me. I move my eyes up to find that the person passing me was something I had been waiting for.
"Andrea!" I shout when I finally figure out who the person that had gotten out of her room was. Andrea doesn't turn around, but I know she had heard me judging by the chanfe in the way she was walking. She is about to leave when a girl gets out of her room when she is passing.
"Is that guy here for you, Andrew?" the girl asks, thumb pointing to where I was—yes, on the floor where I was sleeping two minutes ago. At her pointing, I stand up. "He has been here ever since last night, and even though he was sleeping, a few girls have been concerned with a man in the hall when they come out of their showers."
"Uh," Andrea says, and I walk over to her. She can sense I'm being her at the way her spine tightens, and she says, "Uhh—no not really."
"Wait, Andrea, I really do need to talk to you," I say. She doesn't turn to me when she says, "I have a class to get to."
"Are you sure?" I ask, and she turns around to me incredulously.
"Yes," she says slowly. "I'm pretty sure I've been going to this class on time for the last two months. And I'm going to class now."
"But I—"
"Andrew, talk to him," the girl says, and the girl beside me groans. "I don't want to."
"Get him out of here," the girl said, sending a sideways look at me. I must look awful, so I smile at her. She rolls her eyes at me and then says, "He is scaring off a lot of girls." With that, she just closes her door.
Andrea sighs before she says, "You heard her."
"I'm not leaving until I talk to you," I say, determined to tell her about how I really felt about the baby. About how my earlier experience had been blindsided by my selfishness.
Andrea looks down at her phone, saying, "I actually have class in a few minutes."
"I'll just hang here until you get back," I say.
"He is not!" the girl shouts from inside her door. Andrea rolls her eyes before stalking off to her door, and I follow her. "Thank you so much for—" she stops me when she pushes me into her room and closes the door in my face.
Right, I didn't think she would skip her class for me.
⛸️
It's already late in the afternoon when I hear the doorknob finally turn on the other side. I had been in here, sitting on the floor of her bed, as I've been waiting for her. I could have gotten up and left, but I didn't want to. I knew that if I had walked out of here, I would lose the nerve to talk to her. It took me three weeks to talk to her, so I was going to stick it through no matter how long it took. I just didn't realize that it would take Andrea 5 hours to get back to her dorm room.
When she opens the door and spots me on the floor, she shouts. Her hand goes to her heart, but then she realizes it's me. She runs a hand through her hair and, with a sigh, closes the door. I was getting a lot of those out of her today. It seemed like she really didn't want to talk to me.
No, shit , Sherlock.
"Hi," I say, standing up from my spot on the floor. "It took you so long to get out here."
