Ash's POV

"I can't believe it..." Calem said as he stares at Chestnaught, who has fainted from our battle a moment ago. "How could I lose to someone like you?!"

I can see Calem getting frustrated, and I get how he feels.. no one wants to lose an important battle like this one. Despite being how good he was, everyone has to experience defeat at some point.

"You know, Calem, there's nothing wrong with experience defeat." I said as I look towards him.

"Pfft... what do you know?"

"A lot exactly." I said. "I know defeat is not an easy thing to admit, but we all have to experience it to become stronger."

"Become stronger by experiencing defeat, huh?"

"That's right. So, how about you join us, and take down Lysandre together? I know it'll make Serena happy."

Calem looked towards Serena, who hasn't moved once since she has broken free from her mind control state.

"You really like her, don't you?"

"Yeah, more than anything." I replied.

Calem gave me a genuine smile for the first time since I have met him.

"You're a good man, Ash. I'm counting on you to watch over Serena for me."

Did that really just happen? Did Calem gave me his blessing to take care of Serena? Talk about a change of heart.

"Thanks, Calem."

Meanwhile, May and the others were able to defeat Groundon and Kyogre. Once Lysandre saw this, he started to get annoyed because his plans weren't coming true.

"No... No... NO!!!!"

All of us, including Calem, looked towards Lysandre.

"Give up, Lysandre! Your plans to take over the Hoenn Region has failed!" I said.

"That's right, and we were able to defeat Groundon and Kyogre!" May said.

"You might've been able to get away back in Kalos, but we can be sure that it won't happen again!" Clemont said.

"I sided with you just to become stronger, but now I see that it was nothing more than a waste of time." Calem said, regretting his decision.

"Are you going to give up and come along quietly?" Misty asked.

"Or will we have to dish up a battle, and make you?" Cilan adds on.

Lysandre didn't say anything to stuff we said. He placed his hand over his heart, and let out an evil laugh.

"What are you laughing at, you psycho?" Iris asked.

"You kids thought you had me beat, did you?" He asked. "But bad news for you, I still have an ace up my sleeve."

He pulled out a Pokeball, and my gut is telling me that it's not going to be one from his regular team.

"Guys, let me handle him! Grab Serena and get out of here!"

"What?! But Ash, you can't-" Tracey started, but he was cut off by Brock.

"It'll be fine, Tracey. Ash can definitely handle him."

"Brock's right. We just need to get Serena to a safe place." Dawn said.

The others grabbed Serena and left the scene. Now it's just me and Lysandre with no one to stand in the way.
