Ship-Horkita POV

I met with Ayanokoji as we sat down together. It was my first time having a friend in a while so the situation felt a bit awkward for me.

"Um, so Ayanokoji. What group are you in?"

"Group 4. Rabbit. Before you ask..."

Ayanokoji showed me the email the school sent him.

"I'm not the VIP."

I showed him mine.

"I'm not either."

"I see."

"Ayanokoji. What do you think of this Examination?"

"It largely depends on how the VIP approaches it. In my case, things are simpler."

"Simpler?"

"I already know who the VIP is."

"You do?"

"It wouldn't be wise to discuss it especially since it doesn't help you to know. I'll keep the knowledge to myself for now and use it when and if necessary."

I wrote it down on a piece of paper.

Blink Once For Yes. Twice For No.

I slid it over to Ayanokoji.

"Are they a Classmate?"

Ayanokoji Blinked once. There was no harm in telling me this way since the writing was so small only we could see it and a camera's image from far away would be blurry at best.

"Given you know who it is. Do you plan on earning us Class Points for this exam or not?"

"I can't promise 50 Points but 25 should be manageable."

"Isn't 25 the harder result to get?"

"Normally that would be true but we just received our group members in an email. One of them is Ichinose Honami. With her in the group, it is unlikely for anyone to betray the group."

"I agree with you on that. After all, Getting someone to guess incorrectly is difficult when she's involved."

"With that out of the way Horikita. Do you have any idea about who the VIP in your group is?"

"I have a vague suspicion but I could be wrong."

"You should confirm it before taking any actions."

"I know but truthfully I would have preferred to be in the same group as you. It would have made coordinating things easier."

"There's another reason isn't there?"

"Ryuen is also in our group. I'd rather not be in his group."

"That's fair. Do you want me to help you confirm the identity of the VIP?"

"No. I... I'll handle it myself. If I always rely on you and give no results in return then I'd just end up being a burden for you."

'She really does sound like my friend now.'

Suddenly a laugh came from nearby. it was Ryuen.

"Nice weather we're having. Mind if I join you two?"

Ayanokoji turned to face Ryuen first. He studied Rayuen's face quickly with his eyes. I had begun to notice this was a habit of Ayanokoji's. He would always closely observe a person's face and then the rest of their body before speaking even a single word. He would repeat this process as the conversation continued like he was looking for a person's tells and behaviour. I myself looked at Ryuen's face but I couldn't tell what he was intending with this encounter. I see now that I'm just not at the level where I can replicate what Ayanokoji does. Does that mean that... he's better than me? I guess he is.
